Our U16 boys travelled to North Kildare rugby club to play Maynooth PP in the first round of the 3A cup today. In what was a very hard fought contest and certainly a bruising encounter for our young team. Maynooth got off to a strong start running in two quick tries. Portlaoise grouped together and ran in two of their own tries leaving the score at 12 - 10 to Maynooth. Unfortunately that was to be it for Portlaoise on the day as regards scoring again and Maynooths very physical side powered ahead with many scores in succession. More bad news for Portlaoise as one of our main players Sean Downey had to come off due to injury. We fought to the very end but sadly it wasnt to be today. Final score Maynooth PP 57 -- Portlaoise 10.
