In order for a student to have permission to leave their class early and sign out they must have a note. When parents come to collect their son and the student does not have a note to show his teacher it means the office staff must leave their work and walk around the school looking for that student. The teacher could have moved to another class and that is even worse. This is time consuming and can be avoided. The correct procedure is the parent writes the note, the student shows their teacher at the start of class the time he has to go as written by his parent/guardian, and he comes to sign out at the same time as he is being collected. During the course of any day, secretaries go to fetch at least 10 students. Everyone loses time to this. In future we would appreciate if this procedure was followed. Thank you. MM

It is imperative that all information required by your teachers regarding your up coming work placement ( 4th- 7th Dec inclusive) be returned to them immediately. If you have not succeeded in getting a placement speak to Ms. Gillson or your LCVP teachers. Make sure you have proof that you tried to secure a placement . Cold calling is usually a good way to persuade an employer to take you on; dress neatly, bring a letter of introduction ,a C.V., a copy of the school insurance and be prepared to wait to see a manager. Meeting someone in person is the way to get in the door! Simply dropping a C.V. rarely works in your favour. Good luck! L.Gillson.

With over 30 stands, the first port of call for the students were two Gardai, offering information and advice on the application process for the Garda. Close by SUSI representatives offered information leaflets, followed by the very popular Teagasc stand. Richard Ashmore Teagasc Education rep was photographed chatting with a group from CBS. Other students discussed Engineering courses with UCD, NUIG and UL stands. Carlow IT promoted the variety of computer based courses they offer, as well as highlighting the supports offered by HEAR and DARE nationwide. Overall, all agreed a worthwhile morning was had! Many hours of career and course focused reading are ahead if the arm loads of prospectuses brought back are to go by!!
