Some information for 6th year parents regarding career guidance in 6th year. There are still a number of students deciding on their further education and therefore may have missed the opportunity to attend some of the college open days this year. Don’t panic! Most colleges run Spring open days and these usually take place on Saturdays. I have attached the link for you to keep an eye on upcoming events: www.qualifax.ie/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=22 As usual the 6th years have had and will have a number of college and I.T. reps in to speak with them. The parents CAO information evening will take place on Thursday the 22nd of November at 7pm. Any parent whose son is hoping to attend college is encouraged to attend. These are some of the topics that will be covered: -HEAR and DARE -Demo of CAO form filling -CAO Timeline -Results and offers stage Both qualifax.ie and careersportal.ie are just two of the websites we use with the boys to get them researching their options after school. Furthermore, SOLAS and apprenticeships.ie offer a wealth of further information on apprenticeships. Any information the school receives on PLC options, apprenticeships and college open and taster days will be passed onto the boys and where possible posted on the app! www.ahead.ie has a wealth of information regarding the HEAR&DARE applications. 6th years are encouraged to attend their one to one careers appointment with either Ms Mc Entee or Ms C. Brennan. Students can also request an appointment themselves. We look forward to seeing parents next Thursday.
