1st Year Footballers Seal First Championship Victory

️ Our 1st Year Footballers were out on Friday in their first championship game vs Knockbeg.
It was Knockbeg who had the stronger start as they struck over two points in the first 5 minutes. St. Mary’s CBS fought back early though with Eoin Fitzpatrick converting a free for the first of his four points. The brothers took the lead mere minutes afterwards when Noah Lawlor smashed a rebound into the bottom corner. They took off from there as Ethan O’Connor sent his shot sailing over the bar then picking out a stunning pass to wing forward Danny Breen for him to rattle the back of the net as well. Rory Kennedy was kept busy in between the sticks throughout, pulling off some stunning saves to keep our lads ahead. His pinpoint kickouts also meant he always found a red jersey. ️ It was level at the break with a score of 2-2 to 1-5.

The CBS had a stronger start to the second half, with Darragh Fingleton tapping the ball into the net for a third goal. Two more well taken points which full forward Eoin Fitz added to his tally, helped the brothers pull away ️ and super sub Ryan Shiney Conlon had an immediate impact firing one into the top corner with his first touch of the ball. The lads worked extremely hard off the ball as well, Rory Hand never let go of his man at centre back while Darragh Fingleton and Darragh Keenan were relentless in midfield ️ With the help of strong subs to close the game there were solid performances from Calvagh Cullinane, Senan O’Connell and Mark Roberts which meant Knockbeg only scored two points in the hole second half. Nearing the final whistle, Adam Whelan slotted one over from corner forward with Ethan O’Connor pointing once again too. Eoin Fitz punished Knockbeg with his fourth point of the game and Adam Whelan sealed the win with another goal calmly placed into the bottom corner. The boys ran out 5-7 to 1-7 winners. ️
MOTM had to be spilt between two great players with Darragh Keenan and Rory Kennedy both putting in super displays.

Many thanks to TY Student Cormac Deegan for the match report
1st Year Soccer Team come out on top in first Cup outing!

Our 1st Year Soccer team began their cup campaign with an impressive performance against Adamstown CC.
St. Mary’s CBS started the strongest, with attacks led from the middle of the field by Calvagh Cullinane and Adam Whelan.
Eoin Fitzpatrick was first to break the deadlock with a fine finish to the bottom corner. Good defending by Mark Roberts and Darragh Keenan kept any Adamstown attacks at bay with Culainn McEvoy coming off the bench to extend the lead with his hard work paying off with a hat trick. Adam Mcdonald & Ronak John sealed the victory for the CBS by adding to the scoresheet. McDonald's half volley from outside the box was the standout goal of the game for his teammates as you can see in the celebration video on our school Instagram page!

Well done to the boys on a successful first outing in St. Mary’s CBS colours!

The National Service Development Manager for ADHD Ireland has sent an invitation to our school regarding a day event held in Portlaoise for students with ADHD. The conference is also relevant to students with DCD, Dyspraxia and/or Dyslexia. The ADHD Ireland Teen Conference is in Portlaoise on Monday 20th November 9.30am until 3.30pm. This happens to be a JCT day where the teachers of St Mary’s CBS cannot attend because they are needed on the school premises. However, you could register your son to attend the conference if you wish with Ms. Nicola Coss, 086 0235746.

This is the first event of its kind in the country and I'm very excited to be hosting this inaugural event in my hometown. The schedule includes ADHD life experiences, professional self-development workshops, ADHD Coaching and a podcast room complimented by creative classes like Zumba and a sensory room facilitated by local partner organisation ‘All Abilities Ireland’. The finale comedy show will be hosted by Bob Hennigan, is a well-known comedian and following a diagnosis of ADHD in his 40s, Bob has started to speak of his experience with the condition and is touring Ireland with his ADHD-themed show ‘It Doesn't ADhD Up’.

This will be a fun and educational experience for all young students to learn about the condition for themselves, especially those who maybe struggling. All teens welcome and students, they don't need an ADHD diagnosis, those with dyspraixa, DCD, ASD and/dyslexia are also welcome!
