️Senior Rugby Report️
Our Senior Rugby team were out on Tuesday the 7th of November vs a big Creagh College Gorey side in the last 16 tie of the Ann McInerney Cup.

They hit the ground running with Cian Butler crashing over first and Daniel Thornton converting to give us a 7 point lead. Shortly after Ciaran O'Brien-McCormack drove his way under the posts for an easy kick and a 14 point lead. Creagh would fight back though with their centre breaking the line and scoring but a missed kick left the score 14 points to 5. That wasn't the score for long though with Aaron Kingston finding his way over for another try. Then just before the break quick hands let Paddy Reddin score in the corner giving the CBS a lead of 24-5 at the break.

The second half was no different to the first with Cian scoring his second of the game early on and Daniel converting once again to push the CBS even further ahead. Great work in the forwards from the likes of Clinton O Eijofor, Nathan Duffy, and Charlie O'Dwyer in the scrum helped massively for the win. The CBS were not afraid to make changes and the fresh legs off the bench finished the game as a contest with powerful runners like Darragh Walker and Robert Keane adding a new spark.

Paddy Reddin was then at the double after running over his man and tapping it down in the corner increasing the score to 36-5. Adam Glynn was next on the scoresheet for the brothers crashing over the whitewash with Thornton there again to convert. The final nail in the coffin for Gorey was a piece of brilliance from PJ Larkin, starting in his own twenty-two he dodged and evaded the Gorey players all the way before placing the ball under the posts, with a Thornton conversion yet again the match ended with a win for the CBS 50 points to 5. Man of the match was shared by the two powerhouses in the front row Adam Raji and Charlie O'Dwyer.
As is customary the men of the match sing on the way home as the video in our social media stories shows! Congratulations to all players and coaches ️ #fromeachtheirbest

This week is STAND UP WEEK nationwide.  The theme of the week is Allyship.

We are asked to consider how each of us can;

Show support,

Be an ally,

to people among us who may feel on the fringes, or outside society, especially people from the LGBTQ+ community

On Friday, the Student Council invites you to wear bright clothes, not to collect money, but to celebrate our diversity and recognise how each person contributes to the spirit and life of our school community.

We are back with a bang today - Pre-Mock Exams beginning today and tomorrow for exam classes. There are 7 weeks left until Christmas and we won't feel the time passing us by.

The Spanish trip to Madrid over the Midterm was a great success. The teachers and students had a great time. Travelling with Ms Saez, a native of Madrid, made the trip all the more informative for everyone.

Please pay attention to the project deadlines which you son must meet in order to keep on top of his CBA's, the JC and LC practical projects, the Geography field study, investigations for other subjects and of course, his homework. These dates are important and are always flagged well in advance by the teachers, giving time for them to be done by the student.

Rehearsals for our upcoming School Musical "All Shook Up" are continuing. It is great to welcome many of the Scoil Chriost Ri students over to join us in this very exciting undertaking. Under the experienced direction of Paul 'Nippy' Norton, the lads and ladies are singing, dancing and most importantly, having fun. It will run in the Dunamaise Theatre in February. Many thanks to the teachers involved with the musical.

We have two Parent Teacher Meetings coming up: on the 8th November for 5th years, TY's and LCA1 parents. A month later, on December 6th, for the 2nd years. Please mark these in your calendars.

Our next Parent Council Meeting will be on Thursday the 14th November, at 7.30. We have a new Committee and plans are afoot for a Christmas Market among other ideas for the year ahead. Please come along on that night. Meetings are never long and the discussion is often informative.

I also want to give notice in advance of the school closure on Monday 20th November for the JCT Cluster Workshop Day. All Laois secondary schools will be closed and attend different schools for subject professional development.

As we began school 3 days earlier than required by the Department in August this allows us to close for 3 days during the school year. We will be closed on Monday, November 27th.

The Christmas Exams for the 1st, 2nd, 5th years will be held during the last week of school beginning December 18th. The school will close for Christmas on Friday December 22nd.

Our sporting events went very well last term, and hopefully will continue for the remainder of this year. Many thanks to our teacher/coaches who spend many hours training and organising the sporting events each week.

I wish to remind parents that if your son must leave school early, he must bring in a note in his journal to show his year head and teacher before so that he will be allowed to leave the class at that time. Thank you all very much for your continued support of myself, the office, teachers and SNA's. It is much appreciated.

️ U19 Soccer Cup Report ️
On a crisp Friday morning ahead of the October break, St. Mary’s CBS U19 soccer team were met with a strong opposition in St Paul's Monasterevin. The CBS started well but faced a tough Monasterevin backline. Sean Keane came close in the opening minutes after he was played in by Elijah Emmanuel. But it was Monasterevin who struck first after they converted a chance after scrappy play in the CBS box. Thankfully, the CBS pulled one back minutes later after a tidy finish by Sean Keane to equalise.

Paddy Fitzpatrick delivered a pinpoint cross to Ben O’Connor at the backpost who unfortunately struck the woodwork. The deadlock was not broken until the dying minutes of the first half when a lovely finish by Sean Keane put the CBS up 2-1 at the break ️

George Okpara and Darren Brennan came close but it was Sean Keane who was clinical once more after Paddy Fitzpatrick played him through and he slotted it in to earn himself a hatrick making it 3-1.

St. Mary’s CBS success continued and Elijah Emmanuel followed up with a beautiful strike making it 4-1. Sean Keane made it 5-1 as he upped his tally to 4 goals on the day. Moments later Jack O’Sullivan made it 6-1 after a bullet header to finish off the game.

The game ended in a 6-1 victory for the CBS️The lads now face Blackrock College in the last 16 of the FAI Leinster Senior A Cup
Thanks to TY Students Harry McGree for the match report and Eamonn Browne for the photos

Note - Apologies as some players are missing from the team photo as we forgot to take one on the day so instead used one from a previous league game

Our Meitheal Leadership team have had a busy few weeks with their 1st Year charges. They provided great entertainment on the 1st Year "Sleep out for Focus Ireland" with talent shows and quizes.
They led the 1st Year retreats, proving themselves to be inspirational in their commitment and reflection with the young boys.
The 1st Years ended their first term as they began it, with a fundamental led by their meitheal leaders. The sun shone as they got into the Halloween spirit in costumes and organised fun activities, as well as finishing off the day with the final of the soccer league.
Well done to all our Meitheal Leaders and a big thank you for all the work you do.
