As part of the ongoing "Well Read" initiative, the Literacy Committee will be encouraging parents to read for pleasure at the forthcoming P/T meeting. Books will be available to read and take home. It is envisioned that when parents are finished the book they will return it to the "Drop Zone" as part of a "Take a book, Leave a book" campaign. If you have spare books gathering dust, then why not bring it to the P/T meeting as some one else may enjoy it! The 1st year Parent Teacher Meeting is next Thursday January 23rd.

*The six short courses which started last week will run every Tuesday from 2-4pm until Tuesday, 11th February. So far the course facilitators are very happy and the feedback from students is very positive. However please note that at least 2 of the courses, Self Defence and GAA Coaching require the boys to wear track suits. I mention this as a number did not bring their gym gear yesterday ! Also next week Alf Harvey will meet his group of photographers at the Church at 2pm and take photos of people in the work place. These students require rain gear for the walk up and down the town. A teacher will escort the boys. Congratulations to our students David Ekpemandu and Stephen Mathai who represented our school at the RDS BT Young Scientist competition. Only 1100 students nationwide manage to have their projects showcased so thank you to Ms. Dunleavy for mentoring the boys. Rehearsals for our school musical , "The Addams Family" are underway . The show is on in the Dunamaise Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday , 3rd and 4th of March. The rehearsals take place on Thursday afternoons and Saturdays from 12-2pm approx. Full committment is expected from all involved given the time constraints and the proximity of the show. Ms. O'Connell is producing and Ms. Karen Hackett is directing. It promises to be every bit as good as last year as long as students turn up as required. Cast members will be given a rehearsal schedule for the mid term break. Anyone in a position to offer sponsorship would be appreciated and please plan to buy your tickets early!
'Do It For Dan' Fundraiser for local boy Dan - No Uniform Day 13/3

Little Dan's story is one that deserves a happy ending for him and his parents Aisling and Niall Donoher. Both of Aisling brothers, James and Brendan Quigley, attended St Mary's CBS in Tower Hill. As his parents say, they are running against the clock to raise the €2.1 million needed to pay for the the only treatment available for his rare but devastating muscle wasting disease known as SMA. The USA is their only hope. But Dan is nearly 1 year old, and MUST receive this amazing treatment, Zolgensma, before he is 2 years old. The money must be raised before booking his place so the clock is ticking. We in St Mary's CBS want to do our bit to help Dan and his family. This Friday, March 13th, we will have a NO-UNIFORM DAY and all proceeds will go towards the Do It For Dan Fundraiser. Many of you probably are aware of the GoFundMe page for this cause. Attached are some photos and the description from the GoFundMe page of what SMA has done and could continue to do to his little body. All students who choose to take part are asked to donate €2 towards the collection on Friday and wear suitable clothing of their choice. It takes a huge amount of fundraising to raise €2.1 million in such a short time. Many groups and people are generously contributing and this is our opportunity to help them beat the clock. Thank you for your generosity. MM

Our U15 Basketballers put in a strong display yesterday in Dublin in the U15 All Ireland Schools Cup Qualifier but unfortunately lost their last game. The first game, against Cork CBS, they won with 52-17. Against Booterstown Dublin they won by 10 points, with 41 to 31. Their loss against Colaiste Eanna Dublin in the last game with a score of 53-38 changed the outcome of what would have qualified them for the next stage of this competition. Hard luck lads but very well done overall!
