We all return this morning to a new school year, 2020, and hopefully a new, refreshed and 're-set' brain. It's great to get back to a normal routine, as boring as it may be at times. The Christmas Holiday, no matter what your religion, is a good break in the middle of the darkest time of the year, which allows us to re-connect with our family, have a few sleep-ins, be allowed to 'do nothing' a bit more than normal and get away with it. Most importantly, it allows our brains get away from the rat race which we were all driven by before Christmas. This allows the brains of both teachers and students to re-set, to make a fresh start this morning. The days will soon be getting longer, we will all feel more lively and all the events which students know are ahead of them will come in their own time - I shall not mention them this morning! While no one was jumping out of bed to run into school (or work!) this morning, we are here and in a new calendar year. It is the start of something new and it is up to each one of us to get our own heads into a positive place - only you can get into your own head. Keep it simple - make a list of what's to be done - personally as well as school things. Set simple targets - put a realistic timescale on the items on that list - some may be a week some may be 4 months, or more. Being realistic about the timescale means you won't become discouraged and give up. Begin today to make yourself follow good habits - in your food, in your homework habits, in your time spent on social media, your sleep, keeping up both your hobbies and friendships, trying to get exercise and fresh air - even if it's only 15 minutes. These are the same things which most adults know they have to do as well, it is not just a teenage situation - so start young to create good habits and good intentions. Remember lads, everyone in this world is struggling the same as you - to a greater of lesser extent (believe it or not) - at this very moment. Your struggle is not unique. Your bad habits are not your invention. You can do it. If you need someone to talk to, we are always here. I too have my own resolutions - no matter how old you get there is always lots we can do better - we are all a work in progress - that's what makes LIFE interesting. Begin TODAY and good luck to you! The worst thing we can do is it put it off till tomorrow.
