Europe Day is celebrated on the 9th May each year to remember the signing of the Schuman Declaration in 1950 and the start of the story of the EU we know today. This year is very special as we celebrate 50 years since Ireland joined the EU. Our EU membership has changed how we live, work, study and travel for the better. We are an EPAS school and celebrated by performing Ode to Joy for our school community. Well done to our wonderful student musicians and to Ms Fennell. Thank you.

Eight students from Hub 1 and 2 had a wonderful horticultural tour of Mt Congreve Gardens yesterday, Monday. The gardens are a riot of colour and perfume at this time of year and the students enjoyed admiring the many unusual varieties of Rhododendron, Magnolia, Clematis, Azalea and Wisteria, as well as the native bluebells and wild garlic under-planted beneath the trees. We were even lucky enough to spot a red squirrel tucked up in a handkerchief tree. Well done to all the students who were so well behaved on their visit to one of the most important collections of plants in Europe. Many thanks to the teachers and SNAs that accompanied them.

Opened in 1978, the studios were originally located on Windmill Lane and famous for the graffiti painted on them by U2 fans from all over the world. From rock to rap, from AC/DC to 50 Cent, both global superstars and local heroes come to record at this iconic Art Deco building on Ringsend Road. TY student Gavin Quarry secured Work Experience in this studio.  Last week The Boss Bruce Springsteen was in town he visited the studio. Gavin met with him and Bruce posed for a photo.

Tipperary.  The European Parliament Ambassador School Programme (EPAS) programme gives students the opportunity to understand their rights as EU citizens and to learn about the role of the European Parliament. TY Student Eoghan O Brien gave an excellent presentation to a parked auditorium, this  represented all the EPAS activities carried out in our school during the year. MEPs Billy Kelleher, Sean Kelly and Grace O Sullivan were in attendance today and congratulated our students and Senior EPAS Ambassador Ms McGann for all the work carried out as part of the programme. In advance of Europe day on the 9th of May there was great celebration including the cutting of an EU cake!
