The Deise Women's Shed is a place for women to share and learn new skills, socialise, and connect with the community. On Thursday 30th of March we were thrilled that they visited our TYs from 9am to 11am. They are engaging in a project with our TYs over the next few Thursday mornings. This exciting project is where the TYs will learn to knit squares of a certain dimension, these will then be stitched together to make blankets of hope. The blankets are donated to the hospital for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Many thanks to our deputy principal Ms Sheehen for contacting the Deise Women’s Shed and for organising this wonderful opportunity for our TYs to be part of.

Junior 2 Hockey

Our Junior 2 Hockey season came to a close today as we came up against a strong Rockwell team in the Munster semifinal. Despite having good spells of possession we failed to create enough chances on goal. Aoife Butler was a constant thorn in the Rockwell side as she broke up play and started numerous attacks for us, while our defence of Robyn Foley, Ceire O’Sullivan and Aideen Whelan dealt with everything that was thrown at them in the first quarter. The damage was done in the second quarter as we conceded the only two goals of the game in quick succession. Despite this the girls never gave up and we were on top in the second half but didn’t threaten the Rockwell goal enough to get us back into the game. Final score: Rockwell 2:0 Friary A performance to be proud of and encouraging signs for next year for this group. Panel: Beth Toolan, Robyn Foley, Ceire O’Sullivan, Aideen Whelan, Aoife Butler, Chloe Morrissey, Caragh Quelly, Eva Hogan, Meadhbh Moynihan, Siun Kiely, Roisin Kearns, Emily Keyworth, Caitlin Gavin.

The marking of Junior Cycle Examination 2022 Appeals is now complete and students have been informed of any changes (if any) to their grades awarded by the State Examinations Commission. During the next few weeks, the school will finalise the Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement (JCPA) certificates for our Junior Cycle 2022 students, which will contain the following information:

  1. The results of Junior Cycle State Examinations.

  2. A descriptor for completed Classroom Based Assessments in each subject studied at Junior Cycle.

  1. Student achievement in the area of ‘Wellbeing’.

  2. Student achievement in the area of ‘Other Areas of Learning’.

In the Other Areas of Learning section of the JCPA, students’ non-academic achievements within the school community during their three years at Junior Cycle are reported. The student describes the skills they developed through participation in extra-curricular school activities. Any learning experience which has allowed students to develop skills and has benefitted them as a whole can be included here, and the student writes the entry themselves.

All TY students will be instructed on how to complete their entry, which should be submitted via Google Classroom (code 5zcyvh4)by 6pm on Friday March 31st 2023. Their entry should be written in the third person and should not exceed 750 characters. Students should discuss their entries with parent(s) or guardians before their entries are submitted. Attached is a Parent’s Guide to the JCPA. A PDF of the students’ instructions will be available under the Curriculum tab of the school website during the week. You can submit any questions or queries to jcpa@staugustines.ie
