ISIC Student Card
Created : 20 Feb 2024, 11:45 AM
Archived : 11 Mar 2024, 12:00 AM

To all parents, guardians and carers,

The student council has some exciting news:

We are organising student cards for students in Goatstown ETSS. The cards are issued by the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and allow students to avail of a range of discounts from travel and food to clothing in over 1000 shops. They are an international form of ID and can be used in over 120 countries.

The student card is €15 and comes in both a physical and digital form. All students will have the opportunity to get a student card. Applications are being issued to students in First Year and Second Year this week. Our plan is to collect €15 in cash from students who would like to purchase a card. We are continuing to collect applications from our TY students and we will resume collecting applications for Third Years once they have completed their mocks.

If your child decides to purchase a student card please ensure that they complete the form neatly and accurately as this will be used to complete the details for their student card. The ISIC team will come into the school on March 8th to take ID photos and to create the card.

Thank you so much for your support and if you have any questions please just ask Marie (mtaylor@goatstownetss.ie) or visit the ISIC website.

Kind regards

School Device upgrade
Created : 01 Feb 2024, 12:57 PM
Archived : 16 Feb 2024, 12:00 AM

Dear First Year & Second Year parents, guardians and carers,

This year, Wriggle (who manage our student devices) have introduced a higher specification device which we plan to introduce to our Incoming First Years. The new device will be significantly faster and more reliable than the current one being used by your child. The new device is expected to be priced between €530 and €550.

We have asked Wriggle about a possible trade-in service for our current students should they wish to upgrade the current Lenova device to this higher spec model.  To determine how much Wriggle would be willing to offer for the trade-in, they need to understand how much interest there is amongst our First & Second Year groups. Please let us know your interest by completing the attached questionnaire form with a Yes/No by Friday February 9th 2024.

Please note that there is absolutely no obligation for you to upgrade your child’s device. However, for those who would like to consider this option it may be helpful to know that our students will be using this device throughout the Senior Cycle.

Water disruption Friday

Dear parents, guardians and carers,

Main rehabilitation water works may cause some disruptions to the supply of water in the Upper Churchtown Road area tomorrow, according to Uisce Éireann's website.

Our school is served by large water tanks which should be sufficient to cover sink and toilet facilities for the full school day should any supply issues arise.

However students may not have access to drinking water in the school, so please ensure your child brings a bottle of water with them tomorrow.

School Accommodation

Please see statement from the Design and Build section of the Department of Education regarding our permanent site on the Goatstown Road:

As you are aware, the Department is progressing the delivery of the interim accommodation for Goatstown Educate Together Secondary School on the permanent school site for the 2024/25 school year. Contractor has commenced work on site and progress is well underway for completion for the new school year 2024/25.

Heras fencing with privacy mesh will be installed along the northern boundary of the site as a temporary measure. The boundary treatment for the permanent school will be dealt with as part of the planning application.  The services of a qualified arborist have been retained in order to comply with conditions no. 12 and 13 of the interim accommodation planning permission.

Goatstown Educate Together National School is currently located at the Notre Dame Campus in Churchtown, Dublin 14. The Department will continue to address the interim accommodation requirements for both schools and will continue to keep the patron body and the school community updated as the project progresses.

The permanent school building project for Goatstown Educate Together National School and Goatstown Educate Together Secondary School has been assigned to the Department’s Design & Build delivery programme.  This delivery programme uses a professional external Project Manager to progress the project through the relevant stages of architectural planning, tender and construction.   A pre-planning meeting with the Planning Department of the local authority was held to discuss the design proposals for the permanent school building project.  These discussions are informing the plans for developing the planning application documentation.   The next key milestone for this campus project will be the submission of the planning application.

The acquisition of the permanent site for the schools in question on the Goatstown Road was completed by my Department in June 2019. The zoning on the site reserves 60% of the site for "open space” – that is, it cannot be built upon.  My Department’s Project Manager is liaising with the local authority in relation to the legal agreement associated with this zoning requirement. Once this has been finalised, it is anticipated that the planning application will be lodged in Q1 2024. In advance of submitting the planning application both schools will be invited to view the permanent school plans.  It is not possible to provide a timeframe for the progression of the project to tender and construction stages until such time as the necessary statutory approvals have been secured.
