The ‘Big Dig’ archaeology workshop
Created : 01 Nov 2021, 9:45 AM
Archived : 18 Nov 2021, 11:07 AM
The History Department are excited to welcome the ‘Big Dig’ archaeology workshop (facilitated by archaeologists from the School of Irish Archaeology) to HCETSS on Friday the 19th of November for all 1st year students.
The ‘Big Dig’ is a hands-on educational workshop which involves students taking part in a simulated archaeological dig on a replica excavation site which will be brought to the school. It is hoped that this active learning experience will enhance student learning of our current unit of learning in history: “The Nature of History: The Historian and the Archaeologist”. The workshop will also support students in developing key historical skills such as ‘working with the evidence’.
Students will take part in the workshop in small groups throughout the day and each session lasts for 40 minutes. To help cover the cost of the workshop, we require a contribution of €10 from each student. This can be paid through the school app from today, 1st November.
