Dear parents/guardians, The History Department are excited to welcome the ‘Big Dig’ archaeology workshop (facilitated by archaeologists from the School of Irish Archaeology) to HCETSS on Friday the 7th October for all 1st year students. The ‘Big Dig’ is a hands-on educational workshop which involves students taking part in a simulated archaeological dig on a replica excavation site which will be brought to the school. It is hoped that this active learning experience will enhance student learning of our current unit of learning in history: “The Nature of History: The Historian and the Archaeologist”. The workshop will also support students in developing key historical skills such as ‘working with the evidence’. Students will take part in the workshop in small groups throughout the day and each session lasts for 40 minutes. To help cover the cost of the workshop, we require a contribution of €15 from each student (to be paid via the app). Kind regards, Holly

Dear First Year parents, Please see below link to e-book tutorial video mentioned by Evan in last week’s presentation. youtu.be/zwtO2g6nEqE We have also emailed you all a pdf copy of the presentation. The annual contributions that we have received to date have enabled us to provide a wide range of sporting activities for this year’s First Year students. We also wish to purchase more sports as well as a new P.A. system and a wide range of science equipment including glassware, chemicals and equipment for our Junior Cycle Science experiments. Our Board of Management suggest a contribution of €275 for your child. If you are in a position to pay more, we would really appreciate this to allow for parents who may not be in a position to contribute this amount. Your contributions will greatly help contribute to our efforts to provide the best teaching and learning experiences possible for your child. Contributions are gratefully received via our school app. In order to make a contribution, you select the school payments option in our app available under school shop tab and you can then access contribution tab. Very many thanks. School Office

Dear Parent/Guardian, We are writing to you as we reach the end of the second year of our school’s development. It has truly been a year like no other. To welcome in 75 First Year students in September 2021, build upon the excellent practices around learning and teaching established in Year 1, all the while supporting student wellbeing and engagement has been a huge collective effort. This year, we also opened our first Autism Class, The Grove, a significant milestone for us in becoming a fully inclusive school community. Our First Year students settled in very well and really engaged with all of the learning opportunities which HCETSS has to offer. They are a talented group of young people with boundless amounts of positivity and energy. Second Year grew in size and as the original pioneers of the school, we are extremely fortunate to have such a kind, considerate and inclusive group of students. We will be relying on all of our students to welcome in next year our three new First Year classes. By this September, our school community will have grown to just under 190 students. We had a great team of Professional Masters in Education (PME) students this year. Dan, Michael Sam and Stephen are now fully qualified teachers and we wish them all well in the next stage of their careers. Next year will see our staff increase by four teachers across a range of different subject areas. The recruitment process is well underway, and we have made some fantastic appointments. Some work is also taking place on our campus over the summer holidays. Our campus footprint will increase as two additional prefabs are installed on the main site and our boundary fence moved to include these additional learning spaces. One of these will be a mainstream classroom, the other will be staffroom and staff workspace for our teachers and SNAs. Term three in particular, has seen extensive consultation with students around digital learning, assessment, dress code school as well as engagement with the two student associate members of our Board of Management. We have also consulted with you around digital learning in our school via our PSA. Your feedback has been invaluable and will greatly help to inform our Digital Plan for 2022/23. It has been great to welcome parents back into school following the social isolation brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Our Community Day in March was one of the highlights of the year. We hope to hold many more in person events next year. A heartfelt thanks to all staff for their dedication and commitment to our students and our vision for Harold’s Cross ETSS. Our amazing staff make the high standards of learning, behaviour and wellbeing experienced by students look easy to achieve. The reality is that it takes a huge investment of time and energy to research, plan, prepare, reflect, adapt and innovate. We are hugely grateful and inspired by their hard work every day. Finally, a huge thank you to you, our parents and guardians for the support and trust which you have placed in us, your children’s educators and for your positive encouragement and reinforcement of the HCETSS pillar values of kindness, creativity and effort. Everything that we do here is in partnership with each of you and your support is greatly appreciated. We should be very proud of all that we have achieved together thus far. Our Sway newsletter can be found here: sway.office.com/PKDS55BldRMYoz5w?ref=Link&loc=play Wishing you all a restful, relaxing and hopefully sunny! summer break. Kind regards, Padraig Conaty Mick Heffernan
