Dear parents, guardians, As part of the Department of Education SPHE curriculum, a number of Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) lessons take place during Term 3 of Second Year. These lessons will take place in our school during this week and next week. The two main topics which will be discussed are the sharing of explicit imagery and puberty. This is in line with the national guidelines for RSE and SPHE for 2nd year students. We will be drawing from resources from the HSE RSE school package and DCU’s Fuse Antibullying programme, both recommended by the Department of Education. If you have any queries about the topics we will be discussing in class, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s tutor who is also their SPHE teacher, Rowie (rowiemurphy@hcetss.ie) or Evan (evancondell@hcetss.ie). Kind regards, Rowie and Evan

Ability Awareness Week from 21st to 25th March

Archived : 16 May 2022, 12:00 AM
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians, Our school is delighted to host Ability Awareness Week from 21st to 25th March during which time we will celebrate different ways of 'knowing, being, doing, and learning'. The first day of that week is International Down Syndrome Day, and we are inviting staff and students to wear 'odd socks' in recognition of this. Students from The Great Minds Team are holding a raffle that day to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland. Raffle prizes include home baking, Easter Eggs, book vouchers and more. On Tuesday morning, 22nd March, we will host an exciting event at which the Children's Ombudsman, Niall Mulldoon, will officially launch Ability Awareness Week at 11 am and we will also link in with 3 other schools who are joining the activities: Harold's Cross Educate Together National School; Riverview Educate Together National School; and St Joseph's Secondary School, Rush, Co. Dublin. There will be a few cross-curricular activities to raise awareness of great minds associated with a range of abilities. Expertise and research will be drawn from our students and students from St Joseph's Secondary School. Kind regards, Paula and Niall Harold's Cross ETSS
