Development Education Award

In good news, this week our school has been awarded a Diplomatic Passport from World Wise Global Schools. The Global Passport Award is a Development Education (DE) quality mark, which offers schools a framework to integrate DE into their teaching and learning. It is a self-assessed and externally-audited accreditation for DE that is open to all post primary schools in the Republic of Ireland. The passport award evaluated our engagement with DE in a number of categories including, curricular, extra curricular, student and teacher engagement, community engagement and leadership and policies. DE is a powerful vehicle through which we can better understand the world we live in, and take action to change it as informed global citizen. Our schools engagement with Development Education is based on the belief that education for human rights and sustainable development are central concerns for our school curriculum. The perspective fostered through DE is one that sees students as active agents in their own learning, favouring a critical questioning approach over one which might tell them what to think. Here in Coláiste Bhríde we engage in Development Education in numerous ways, through our curriculum and extra curriculars such as YSI, Green Schools, Concern Debates and the countless initiatives fostered by teachers inside and outside of their classrooms. A plaque and banner banner was due to be awarded to our school at the World Wise Global Schools Conference in Cork this week but has been rescheduled to next November. We look forward to continuing and building upon this achievement as a whole school on our return. Huge thank you to the World Wise Global Schools team, as well as all of the students and teachers who supported our application.

Dunlavin started the stronger team but were not able to capitalise due to excellent defending by the CB girls. The home team soon settled into the game and despite a shaky finish to the half, they were down by only one point. The second half was a lot more comfortable for the Carnew girls. They worked very well together and managed some great scores and managed to win comfortably. The final score was 2-7 to 1-2. The girls face Newbridge in their next group game.

Junior Camogie Team book place in All-Ireland Final

Coláiste Bhríde 3-7 Maryfield convent 0-5 The Junior camogie team booked a place in the All Ireland final with a hard fought win against Dublin opposition. The CBC ladies were slow to start, allowing the Dublin side a lot of space on the ball. After some heroic defending from the Carnew full back line and a saved penalty Coláiste Bhríde managed to keep the deficit to the minimum of a point. 3-2 at the interval. A completely different Coláiste Bhríde side entered the field for the second half and within 15 minutes the game was all but over as the girls played much closer to their potential registering scores at will and putting huge pressure on the Maryfield defenders. Maryfield were denied goals for a second and third time from the penalty spot, likewise at the other end Coláiste Bhríde could have registered more on the score board also. Congratulations to the girls as their run continues. The all Ireland final is to be played on March 7th vs Cashel Community school, time and venue TBC One final request for support to get these girls over the line in that final and make history.
