CBC was delighted to welcome Alan Dineen to speak with 2nd Year students. Alan is a renowned strength and conditioning coach with a Masters in Performance Coaching based in cork. He has coached at the highest levels, preparing teams for Wheelchair European championships and the World Championships in Wheelchair Rugby, he was also involved with the Tipperary All-Ireland winning team in 2019 running Strength &Conditioning sessions for the Cork-based players . Alan himself is an international wheelchair rugby player who has also competed at numerous European Championships and World Championships. Alan spoke about his own journey to date, current topics of interest to him, the importance of breaking down barriers, playing with Ireland and more.

Former pupil, Conor O’Keeffe, returned to CBC today to speak with Third Year students.Conor shared his own experiences with life’s challenges and emphasised the need for all to develop resilience and how to do so, in a practical way.In 2020 Conor raised in excess of 67,500 Euro for Pieta House, by running 32 marathons across 32 counties in 32 days. He started  this feat while wearing a 32-pound vest to symbolise negative thoughts. He would shed a pound a day from the vest as he progressed.Conor is the founder of  CrúMan, an outdoor adventure community that embodies the  principles of looking after one’s mental and physical health, while exploring the outdoors.

Former pupil, Shane Lehane, returned to CBC today to speak with 3 rd Year students about the importance of developing strong connections and utilising our time wisely. Shane Lehane is a lecturer in the Department of Folklore and Ethnology, UCC where his chief interest is in custom, tradition, and belief. He has additional research interests in material culture, folklife, vernacular traditions and food and as a PhD candidate his thesisdeals with the nature of material culture and time.Shane is also Course Director of Cultural and Heritage Studies in CSN, College of FurtherEducation, Cork. He has lectured in archaeology, folklore, history, and the arts for over 30years and has developed a programme of studies that facilitates both young and maturestudents to progress to Arts and Humanities programmes at 3rd level.Shane is also a beekeeper and advocate of Irish vernacular craft.

Fr Philip Mulryne OP is a Dominican friar of the Irish Provence. He has been a priest for six years and joined the Dominican Order in 2012. Prior to his religious vocation he was a professional footballer with Manchester United,Norwich City and Cardiff City.Fr. Philip represented Northern Ireland 27 times and whilst understanding the great privilege of playing football as a profession, explored with Fifth Year students the question of true human happiness.

CBC was delighted to welcome Dr Sinead Kane to speak with Leaving Cert students today. Dr Kane is an International Keynote Speaker, Double PhD Doctorate holder, Double Guinness World Record holder, Athlete, and Qualified Lawyer. The above achievements are admirable, but are even more so when one considers that Sinead only has 5% vision and is registered as legally blind. She advocates on a daily basis to remove barriers in society that impact disabled people to create meaningful change., She has challenged many discriminatory policies and has successfully achieved changes. Sinead wants to empower others to use their voice to impact change within communities through sharing her story and lessons learned. She proves how those who persist in spite of a disability can develop resilience, determination, motivation, and creativity.

Cross Country Success

Congratulations to Max O'Connor, 1A31 who won Gold in the U15 Cork County Boys Cross Country event last weekend. Max also took Bronze in the U14 Cork County Boys Cross Country event the previous week.   

Worlds Schools Debating : Team Ireland

Congratulations to Sean McSweeney, 4th Yr, who has been selected as a member of the Irish Team which will take part in the World Schools Debating Championship in Serbia next year.  Congratulations also to Charlie Crosbie, 4th Yr, who was named as part of the Irish development team.
