Lovely to see Pres TY students Ronan McCarthy and Ian Crowley honoured with some of their poetry on public display in Fitzgerald’s Park at the moment.

Established and award winning poets are placed alongside emerging poets, young poets and intercultural voices celebrating the diversity of life and literature in the city.

Well done boys and keep and eye out for other poems by Pres students around the parks of Cork during the summer.

Pictured on a walk-by at the installation in Fitzgerald’s Park yesterday are Pres teachers Eleanor Walsh, Caleb Sheehan, Sean O Brien, David O Riordan and Éanna Ó Loingsigh .

It was a successful day for the junior 18 squad at the inaugural Munster Branch Regatta in Inniscarra at the National Rowing Centre on Saturday. There were wins in the J18 Eight and Four, the Club Four, and a second place finish in the J18 Pair.

Ben Mullane, Adam Hartley, Rex O’Sullivan, Andrew O’Leary, Eoghan Aherne, Sam Hernan, Darragh Buckley, Leo Porion and cox, Noah Giltinan made up the eight. Jack Carroll joined Ben, Andrew, Rex and Adam to cox them to victory in the Junior Four, and Leo stepped in for Adam to win the Club Four. A fantastic effort all round from the whole squad.

With only 5 weeks remaining until the National Championships, this was a great boost for the squad as they head into the final phase of the season. Next up is Cork Regatta on the 24th and 25th of June, again at the National Rowing Centre. This will be the final chance for the rowers to prepare themselves for the end of season championships.

Transition Year Chemistry students visited the newly constructed and commissioned Lee Road Water Treatment Plant today which accounts for 70% of the water supply in the city of Cork.

Lee Road Water Treatment Plant has been in operation since 1879. This new design, build & operate project has been the first major upgrade to the plant in over 60 years.

Students received an in-dept site tour on the processes involved from start to finish of water treatment.

Some areas of the upgraded plant which our students learnt about were:

- The reconfigured raw water intake.

- Coagulation, flocculation & clarification systems.

- Chemical & UV disinfection.

- Wash water & sludge handling facilities.

- Gravity filters & water pumping station.

- Supervisory Control & Data Aquisition systems.
