Another year of PBC tennis comes to a close with the final competition, the Munster Finals, on the 17th May in Rushbrooke Tennis Courts.

PBC was represented by two teams, as the U19 Cup and U14 Shield teams were knocked out earlier in the season.

We started the day with the U16 Cup team of Johnny Fitzgerald, Tommy Fitzgerald, James O’Regan, Colman Shanley and Conor Keigher. They defeated Christians 3-2 in a series of very tight games, adding this trophy to their U14 Cup from last year. The final two matches needed a Championship Tie-Break set to separate the teams, but thankfully we came out on top in the end! This is a particularly impressive win, given that the whole team will be eligible to compete U16 again next year!

The next team up was U14 Cup team of David Nolan, Jack O’Mahony, Matt Connolly and Oscar Manning. Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way and we lost 3-0.

Well done to all athletes, and a big thank you to parents for all their support and help with transport throughout the season.

The South Munster Schools’ Championships took place over the last two weekends in the Mardyke Arena, UCC. PBC athletes came out in force with almost 20 athletes competing in a wide range of events.

Saturday 6th of May was our first day on track with Pres taking home two medals. First year student Callum Harrington started us off with a silver in the Minor Boys long jump. Callum leapt out to 4.47m, just 4cm behind the gold medal winner. He adds this accolade to his medal haul from Cross Country earlier in the year!

Next up was Conor Twomey in the Intermediate 3000m. In a very competitive race Conor came away a well-deserved bronze medal, defeating a few Senior athletes too!

The following weekend, we did it all again! Conor medalled again, this time a silver in the 1500m. Another close race, where Conor ran a well-judged pace, with a thrilling kick to finish.

PBC cleaned up in the field events! We took home both the Gold and Silver in the Intermediate triple jump, courtesy of Matthew Wilkins and Oscar Naughton. Matthew retained his Intermediate title with 12.71m, also beating the Senior athletes! He adds this victory to his Pole Vault silver from earlier in the week, yet another challenging field event to add to his roster.

Oscar claimed silver in the Triple Jump - his first triple jump competition! He also won his Javelin competition quite decisively during the week.

Massive thank you to all parents and guardians for all their continued support!

Big things to come this season, with the Munster Championships coming up this Saturday! Best of luck to all qualifiers!

Congratulations to our exceptional Rugby Squads on winning the Junior-Senior Cup Double for the first time since 2007! Their hard work and dedication to the sport have paid off, and this achievement is a testament to the long hours of training and effort that all their coaches as well as themselves have put in at Wilton. You have truly shown that with determination, perseverance, and a team spirit, anything is possible. This is an incredible accomplishment, and you should be proud of yourselves. We are!!

Congratulations to the Green Schools Committee who have been awarded with the latest Green Flag. The theme for the past 2 years was Travel, and this follows on from the Green flags received for Litter + Waste and Water respectively. The Committee comprises of 1st to 6th year students who give up their time to raise awareness of how we can be environmentally responsible as a school community, so it is great to see their hard work pay off. We look forward to the awards ceremony in May when we will be officially presented with the flag to fly proudly outside the school.
