Warning to parents about texts requesting money from your child

Today we were made aware of a text which has been sent to several parents, pretending to be their son or daughter, saying they need the parent to send them money online for school. The text actually asks the parent for the card number, and you know how that will end. Even if the parent says no, there is a follow up reply text which pushes the issue - just like the son or daughter might do. Apparently they need it to pay school, and it is for this reason that I'm bringing it to your attention. This week kids will be returning to school and it could look genuine, They need another ten euros and if the parent falls for it, the card details are provided. I hope that none of you have been caught. Take care.

Requests for a change of class for your son

I hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather, and that you all enjoyed some form of break during the summer. Each year classes are formed for 1st years, 5th years and TY years on a fairly random basis. Sometimes we are advised that students should not be placed in the same class and sometimes a very valid reason is provided why a students really must be with another student. But each year once the class lists are made available to home, the texts, calls and emails begin to flow in - and it is not possible to make these changes for several reasons. Firstly, everyone in class A may have their own preference but didn't get it, but if one gets it why can't they? Secondly, to move one person into a class means moving one other person out of that class - he may not be happy so the cycle continues. We end up disrupting more people. The boys are not in their classrooms 7 hours a day. They are in option classes, on the yard and corridors for lunch and breaks and they mix continually. Those in TY who are unhappy with their class have signed up to TY and what it means - get out of your comfort zone, this is a safe year for you to meet new people, experience what you never thought you'd do before, and all of that. And it begins with getting on with the class you have been randomly selected for. I cannot keep up with the calls, emails and texts coming in the last 2 days for change. We will never have a situation where everyone is happy to be exactly where they are. In a month's time, they will have moved on and found new friends, which is completely normal, making all this a waste of time. I hope that this notification will suffice as a reply to the requests myself and others in Admin have been receiving. We will not be changing anyone's class this week. In the unlikely event that a move must be made in late September or otherwise, it will be made for reasons other than wanting to be with their friends. It could be made for curricular, access to support, behaviour or one of many other school based reasons. I apologise if this sounds harsh but it is the fairest response which I can make to everyone at this time. Thank you.
