Computer Science Week National Conference

Last week some of our 5th Year students visited the Athlone Springs Hotel for the first annual Computer Science Week National Conference. Maksims Semionov, Cathal Molloy, Ben Delaney and Cormac Allen demonstrated their knowledge of sorting algorithms and web design. Well done guys!
TY's visit Airfield Estate Dundrum

Last week TY’s had a tour of the farm and gardens at Airfield Estate Dundrum. Here they focus on how to produce food in their organic vegetable garden using regenerative farming methods.
Students also got to see the milking in the morning and learned about the pasteurising process which their Jersey milk goes through before it is sent to their restaurant. They also got to do a butter making activity.
Other topics covered were seasonality, sustainability, composting and the problem of food waste. Thanks to Ms Dunleavy & Ms Egan for organising the very enjoyable trip.

Parents and students are invited to join Portlaoise GAA in Lilly’s Portlaoise for a family friendly welcome home party for former St. Mary’s CBS student Zach Tuohy of the Geelong Cats! Hello all, during these hard times the boys here at the CBS have decided to do a food appeal along with some of our staff in order to help the people in need in Laois over Christmas. We are looking for donations of non perishable goods. For example:
Tea
Coffee
Pasta
Sugar
Jam
Rice
Selection boxes
Sweets etc..
We would appreciate any donations made. The closing date for donations is the 16th of December. Thanking you in advance for your support.
Ecology Fieldtrip for 6th Year Biology Students

All 6th Year Biology students attended Dublin Zoo on Tuesday to carry out an Ecology Fieldtrip. During the fieldtrip they completed qualitative and quantitative surveys on the flora and fauna in a habitat. They also investigated abiotic factors such as soil pH and light intensity.
After their study they got to spend some time in the zoo! Well done to all involved and thanks to Ms. Barrett for organising
