Please click on the pdf icon to view 5th year Summer Exam TT: (3 small updates tonight: Ms Bracken Maths, 2 teachers names updated) Exams will be done at home, on a device (phone/laptop/PC/tablet) which you need to have organised before hand. Try to plan in advance to ensure that the student will be able to sit down for 1.5 - 2 hours, uninterrupted, with some device, on that date and time. If you genuinely have a problem with the lack of device or WiFi or illness, please email cyrilmulligan@portlaoisecbs.com well in advance and we will try to reach another solution. They do not need to type it on a laptop. They need to be able to read it on their phone, use their own sheets of paper to write their name, question number and also page numbers. When exam is completed they screen shoot the numbered pages, in order, and email, upload to Teams or submit by whatever means the teacher has given them instructions for. The method of receiving and submitting the exams are : -Teacher sends the exam paper on Microsoft Teams or whatever platform they have been using to date with their students; -The student can answer some of it on the exam paper on Teams. Some longer answers or diagrams etc should be written on pages of their own, clearly labelled with the correct question number and a page number on each page used. -When complete, within the time specified, the student should submit what is done on line to the teacher and take screenshots of the written pages in numbered order, to be sent to the teacher. -All this should be done no later than half an hour after the final time of the exam as per the TT. We understand how strange all this is for you, as it is for us. Thank you for your continued support at this difficult time. Finally, if a family member is sick, or the student is sick, there is no WiFi, you can't get a device, please email me well in advance. mmurphy@portlaoisecbs.com Thank you.

Parents you can check on work given to your sons

Hi all. This message was put on this app at the start of the Lockdown and teaching/learning from home. But the learning curve has been steep. Any parent who wants to see what work their sons are getting. if they are submitting work to teachers and if there are live classes etc - use your son's school email address and pw to sign into his Microsoft account. Go to the Apps and click on Teams. Your son should be able to show all this to you, but if he's been telling you he's getting no work, he may find this difficult and embarrassing! Work, live classes, videoed classes etc are being run, mostly according to the normal school timetable. Our teachers are not all able to run live classes, they have their young children/babies at home with them. Many have poor Wifi. The same limitations are on the teachers as are on the families. But all are putting work up on Teams, correcting and interacting with their students. Thank you MM

Young Social Innovators - Open Call to Teenagers
Created : 01 May 2020, 5:54 PM
Archived : 01 Jul 2020, 12:00 AM
The Open Call to Teenagers launched on April 20th and already almost 200 teenagers throughout Ireland have signed up to answer the call to create ideas to help their communities at this time of need. We thought we'd share some of the earliest ideas submitted so far... Cathal, 13, Cavan from Cavan has created an app to help connect those in need with those who are available to provide help. He hopes that his app which is currently being tested in association with his local council will facilitate real-time help for those in isolation who require assistance. Cathal's ambitious idea extends to the possible use of drones to deliver goods to those in need in a safe manner. Ava, 16, Kildare Something that Ava, 16 from Kildare loved to do with her granny was to bake. Ava's idea was a social platform through which older people could pass on and share their favourite recipes and receive feedback through photos and videos from people who have tried them out at home to show the results. In this way, Ava wants to ensure that elderly people feel connected while also passing on their recipes and wisdom to their wider communities. Ellie, 16, and her classmates in Kerry are using social media to support the wellbeing and mental health of those in their community. The teenagers designed a 7 day social media campaign call #LifeSaversWeek as a way of keeping people connected and supported wellbeing while maintaining a safe distance. The campaign includes a focus for each day with themes such as #GetActive and #GetCreative. Can you help reach out to young people in your network? At YSI, we believe that engaging our young people at this time is critical and that young people have a major role to play in helping their communities deal with the many issues caused by Covid-19 now and into the future. We want to enable as many young people as possible to get involved, feel empowered and submit their ideas to help. Share the #YSIOpenCall campaign with young people, teachers, youth workers and parents in your networks and help us reach as many teenagers as possible. No idea is too big or too small and YSI is here with resources and supports for all. For more information or to talk to us about how you can get involved, contact educate@youngsocialinnovators.ie. ATTENTION - IN HOUSE JC EXAM TIMETABLE HERE!
Created : 01 May 2020, 12:54 PM
Archived : 01 Jul 2020, 12:00 AM
We are publishing our JC Exam Timetable today, in advance of these exams beginning on May 13th and ending on May 22nd. They are being run in the same sequence of subjects as the real TT normally runs. Following the guidance of the Minister of Education this week, the majority of work being assessed was covered up to the 12th March school closure. Reports will be issued in June, the Department of Education will provide a Certificate of Completion and we will have a ceremony acknowledging this important milestone in their education when we return to school. Further details will be included in guidelines along with a copy of this Timetable to be posted out to all 3rd years next week. It also allows people time to ensure that the student will be able to sit down for 1.5 - 2 hours, uninterrupted, with a laptop or some device, on that date and time. Special accommodations such as readers, scribes, special centres, etc are outside of our control. However, being at home and having a person within the home supporting their reading, if required, should be adequate. Those using assistive technology, will continue to use their laptops or iPads, as normal for them. The Spelling and Grammar waiver, which is normally applied to the language marking schemes of English, Irish, French and Spanish will also be taken into account by the teachers when marking papers for those students. Perhaps most importantly, the method of receiving and submitting the exams will be : -Teacher sends the exam paper on Microsoft Teams or whatever platform they have been using to date with their students; -The student can answer some of it on the exam paper on Teams. Some longer answers or diagrams etc should be written on pages of their own, clearly labelled with the correct question number and a page number on each page used. -When complete, within the time specified, the student should submit what is done on line to the teacher and take screenshots of the written pages in numbered order, to be sent to the teacher by school email. -All this should be done no later than half an hour after the final time of the exam as per the TT. We understand how strange all this is for you, as it is for us. Thank you for your continued support at this difficult time. Finally, if a family member is sick, or the student is sick, there is no WiFi, you can't get a device, please email me in advance.
