Hello, The closing date for the Wiggle Store is June 3rd. After this, you can still place an order for any year group, but there will be a €50 Late Fee added on. Here is the link and our own Store code: www.wriggle.ie/OnlineStoreLogin Our School Store Code is 02742671
Again, it seems most classes in the coming school year will be done from home. That is the prediction coming from DES discussions and it makes sense to us here on the ground. All students will need a device for education. And it will be far more intensive teaching than this last 11 weeks when it happened with little warning. Nobody was 100% ready for it, but it is our duty to inform you this side of the summer what may be needed in September.
For any school day which a student is at home, classes will be from 9-4 - live teaching, according to the school timetable. So they will not be choosing their time off, nor if they wish to participate. The 2020-21 school year must make the strongest and the best start that we can facilitate. We will keep you informed on this app of any developments. Thank you.

Greetings to one and all, here's hoping you are in good health and enjoying the glorious weather we've been having.
Sadly our TY programme screeched to a halt on March 12th and we've all had to come to terms with a new working environment caused by the Corona pandemic. Notwithstanding this crisis, we hope you have enjoyed all that our TY programme had to offer up to this point and that you have gained new insights since March by practising the skills you honed in TY such as self motivation etc.
This week we should have celebrated your TY graduation in the presence of your families and staff members. However we are fully committed to hosting a graduation and awards ceremony when it is safe to do so.
On behalf of Ms. Gillson and myself, we would like to thank you for the cooperation and commitment throughout the year, and we wish you well for the Leaving Cert cycle. Also we would like to acknowledge the support of your parents, the staff, and management of the CBS
Finally, TY is all about making memories, so here are just a few:

Online Teaching in September and after...

Good morning all. As nobody knows what life in offices, schools, shops, etc will look like in September when we should be starting back to school full time, I think I need to ask parents to consider if we have to return to online and remote learning/teaching, how will your son manage this year. The chances of all 800 returning to this building for 5 days a week from week one are very slim, I'm sure you've figured that yourself. Does your son have a device, bar his phone to keep up with his classes? The Wriggle Store has options for all year groups. I fully understand that many families have lost incomes. But some of you may be able to consider purchasing an educational device, like the iPad, which is locked down to only educational apps through our school management system. They cannot download any other apps to distract. If you have the printed books already - it wasn't the books was the problem the last few months was it? It was maintaining contact, signing into Teams, receiving assignments, being part of this new school outside of school. If it was just about studying textbooks, there wouldn't have been a problem. But because we were out of school entirely, the teachers did have to engage with the students and take in work/send out work, etc. If you are in are in a position to consider, please contact pcahillane@portlaoisecbs.com, our iPad and IT Coordinator for advice. Or, alternatively, go into the Wriggle Store (wriggle.ie) Our School St Mary's CBS Portlaoise and our Store Code: 02742671 will take you to the Store which is specifically for us. Mr Cahillane will answer your questions once you have a look at the store if you wish. Thank you. MM

Good morning, the School Office is not open for parents or students. While there are workmen in the school and myself and a few of the secretarial staff, we are only here on a day to day basis, by application to the DES. As we are a PPP school, we don't own this building and must apply to be here ourselves. If parents begin to come to have forms signed in person we will be told to vacate the building. Please post in or email the office for any queries, and they will be dealt with as promptly as possible. Thank you.

6th Years - Calling out for your school ties and textbooks!

Hi lads, if any of you want to drop back your now disused school ties and any textbooks which could be re-used for incoming 5th Years in September, it would be greatly appreciated. You know how quickly we go through the school tie supply, and this is how we usually end off the year - by collecting your ties at the end of the LC exams. Sadly, that is not to be. Please leave your books/tie - in a bag - inside the front door of the school. We cannot allow students into the school at the moment, so if you want to clean out your locker, it will have to wait for another few weeks. We'll gladly take books then too. Don't leave English books as the course changes year to year. But novels and plays will be appreciated.
Also, many of you do not have the School App. Mr O'Laoire is putting together a kind of video for the end of your 6th year - not to replace your Graduation, which will take place at a later date. It is going to be shown on the Chat Board on the App, but we can see that many lads don't have it installed. Please pass this message around for everyone to download and it will probably be next Thursday when it will be put up for all. Thank you. M
