Dear Parents/Guardians.
I spoke with Steven ,from Saffron Travel ,today for latest update on the trip.
If I were to cancel outright then no refund would be forthcoming. However if the Dept. of Foreign Affairs extends the travel ban beyond the 5th of April ,which he fully expects to happen ,then a refund should become available.
I appreciate this is frustrating but I’ll update you when more information becomes available.
Wishing you all continued good health in these difficult times.
Yours sincerely.
Eadaoin O’Connell.

Entry to school building to collect books/items and contacting Principal

Some students may need to collect items/books from their lockers. Several of you have done so already. If you need to do so, the building is open from 9-5.30. Do not come with anyone, come just by yourself. Absolutely no pairs or small groups of students will be allowed in and may cause Sodexo to shut the doors altogether. Sodexo told me last week that they didn't want students in at all, So don't draw attention to yourself. If someone has to contact the school for something important or needs to speak with me, they should email me on mmurphy@portlaoisecbs.com. I am working everyday but not meeting people. I will reply, as I have been doing since school closed that day. The office phones are not answered nor are they put through to my office when the secretaries are not there, Hence you may be ringing all day but get no reply. I hope this relieves some of the stress about the unknown that some of you are feeling in this strange time. Take care everyone. MM

Edco Access to all their resources..

In light of the COVID-19 situation with school closures, we found a solution to make it as easy as possible for every student, teacher and parent to access our Primary, Junior and Leaving Cert e-books. All you need to do is visit www.edcolearning.ie to access your free e-books and digital resources.
We created three common accounts which you can use to access everything you need to keep you going over the coming weeks. There is no need to register for a new account.
To help exam students study and prepare for their exams, we've also made Revise Wise, Ireland's No. 1 Revision Series for Junior and Leaving Cert free for you to access.
If you're using either of the common Edco accounts we've provided, there's no need to enter the codes below as all the Revise Wise books are already included in those bookshelves.
If you're using your own account and you don't have Revise Wise yet, simply follow the steps below.
Lastly, we'd like to remind everyone who purchased Edco Exam Papers that you can access FREE solutions, tutorials, exam tips, aural exam scripts and audio files on www.e-xamit.ie.
We hope this helps you all during this challenging time.
Have you downloaded your FREE Office 365 to your home laptop/PC yet? You need it to submit work during closure.

Sorry! My correction - not all teachers want their work via Word. Please ignore my previous intro to this message that asked for all work to be given on Word. If the teacher asks for Word documents then that's what you do. If they're OK with screen shots, that's what you send them. But everyone should download the Microsoft Suite as below because it is free to your family and you will use it at some time.
Many of you use Microsoft Word and Powerpoint documents when on the school PC's, but may not have them downloaded onto your home devices. As the package usually costs over €100 to purchase, some families don't. But you cannot open a Microsoft Word, Powerpoint or OneNote document without having the programme on your device first and you will not be able to open some teacher's notes or submit work to teachers without it.
How come it's FREE? When your son is enrolled in this school, (we are a Microsoft 365 school) you are allowed to download the full Microsoft 365 suite of Apps onto 5 devices in your household. So the person who now works from home, the older sibling who is a college student, etc. can have the full free package. The screenshot of instructions accompany this notification. Using your son's school email you can follow the instructions. It doesn't take long it just needs decent WiFi.
Last week students were asked to call to Mr Cahillane if they didn't know their logins and passwords, If any student still hasn't their email login, please email pcahillane@portlaoisecbs.com who can sort you out. Thank you.

Before the closure last week, all our students were updated on their login and passwords for Microsoft 365 so that they could continue their studies from home. Teachers will be posting assignments, resources etc throughout this closure in order to keep our students up to date with their courses. This is for all school years, not just the 3rd and 6th years. Please remind your son to sign into his Microsoft account or whatever other apps, his teachers normally post work to. This closure will more than likely last until April 20th, the day we were meant to return from Easter Holidays. All schools across the country are doing online studies, and it is not enough to presume that exams will be cancelled or that curriculum will be deleted. Remote and online studies is now here to stay, similar to remote working from home, which many parents are currently doing. Our school is very tech-savvy and most of our students are too. This is now the time to use the free time to become more familiar with online working. If anyone has any problems signing in, they can email Mr Cahillane: pcahillane@portlaoisecbs,com . Thank you and stay well. MM
