Important Dates for all 3rd and TY Students
Created : 17 Feb 2024, 2:10 PM
Archived : 19 Apr 2024, 12:00 AM

This week, all current 3rd years and TY students will begin the decision making for next September. Will they do TY? Will they go straight into the traditional LC or LCA? What subjects will they choose? Will they do LCVP? What is it? Many senior subjects are different than the junior courses. What careers do they lead to. Do they need to keep on certain subjects for college? With this in mind, all students need to pay attention to the information which will be given to them this week and go home to discuss this with their parents before making their minds up and submitting the option forms or applying for TY.

Parents also need to support their sons in taking on board the information provided by our staff this week so that you can understand what choices your sons are being given.

This Tuesday, February 20th, at 7pm, parents of 3rd years are asked to attend an Information Evening. First, information will be given about Transition Year at 7pm. Then, at 8pm, those who are interested in 5th year options (that would be all those in TY now plus those in 3rd year who are not going to do TY) will be given information about the subjects, the courses and why some choices make more sense for your son than others. If your son is in TY now, do not attend until 8pm.

If you and your son are not sure about doing TY, we advise you to stay for the 2 sessions. If he decides not to do TY later in the term, you will have missed the relevant information for going into 5th year. There will be Q & A for both sessions.

The due date for TY Applications is next Friday, February 23rd, It will be an online application to Mr Cahillane, the TY Coordinator. After that, he will be offered a place in TY and he must accept it by March 15th and also pay the €250 deposit to the school at that time. (on app or at the office). The balance of €250 is due On May 25th, on March 15th.

Students will also receive senior subject information from the various subject and Guidance departments this coming week also. LCVP has become a much easier subject to do in the last few years and all this will be explained to parents and students this week. Those who wish their son to do LCA (Leaving Cert Applied) will have another Information Evening, but not this week. This notification will be updated as required.

Those going forward to 5th year in September will have "subject taster sessions" on Monday 4th March and Wednesday 6th March.

Thank you.

1st Years Begin Shield Campaign!
Created : 08 Feb 2024, 6:58 PM
Archived : 08 Apr 2024, 12:00 AM
On Thursday our 1st Years began their Shield campaign against Marcy SS, Kilbeggan in Killeshin FC.

It was CBS that started the strongest and within 4 minutes Eoin Fitzpatrick found the net to put CBS in front. From here the tide turned and within a ten minute spell of attack from Mercy SS, the CBS found themselves 3-1 down. It was Mercy SS that would find the net again with a strike from outside the box finding the bottom corner. Mark Roberts slotted a cross from Danny Breen past the keeper to leave the CBS 4-2 down at half time. Just like the 1st the CBS started the 2nd half the strongest, but this time they didn't relent, led by strong performances from Mark Roberts, Eoin Fitzpatick, Adam Whelan & Ethan O Connor. It was another touch of class by Eoin Fitzpatrick that brought CBS back within one of the visitors. Again the CBS kept the pressure on coming close to equalising on several occasions , but it was Adam McDonald that pounced on a dropping ball in the box to level the sides with 5 minutes to go. More chances came and went with Eoin Fitzpatrick coming close from an indirect free kick, but it was to be a last minute winner that saved CBS from extra time, when subs Killian Hendy and Ben Holohan combined in the box to secure victory for the CBS.

Well done boys!
