VERY IMPORTANT!! Information Night for ALL TY and 3rd year parents

This is a reminder for all parents of 3rd years and current TY's that the Parents' Information Night is being held this Thursday evening, March 7th at 7.30 pm. The process for students to decide, along with their parents, what course and/or subjects to follow towards their Leaving Certificate is now beginning. Transition Year will be presented first by Ms Gillson and Ms O'Connell, the TY Coordinators. The 5th year subjects, including LCVP, will begin immediately after that, presented by the Career Guidance Team. This is a very important meeting for all parents to attend. to help them select their right subject options. All will be catered for as far as providing information is concerned. The TY Application Closing Date will be Friday March 15th at 1.15. Interviews will take place during the week of March 25th. Results will be made available on Friday March 29th. After that, during the first week of April, the 5th year Subject Option Forms will be submitted. Your input as parents to this whole process is vital. Choices made this side of the summer may greatly influence, either negatively or positively, the suitability of the course chosen by your son for his Leaving Certificate. We would strongly advise that you and your son consider doing Transition Year after 3rd year. More and more, especially in the current year, students have come to me to say they are not ready to do their LC next year. Parents say they are far too immature, or don't know their own mind to make good choices. And then say they should have considered TY. All arrive at that conclusion half way through 5th year. Repeating 5th year is not a given. It has to be approved by the Department of Education & Skills. The experiences and skills outside of the LC Curriculum far outweigh the repetition of the same subjects, which can be demoralizing to the student if their friends have moved on. Please consider Transition Year, for all the right reasons, which you will learn more about on Thursday evening. Thank you. Maura Murphy

The students, Fionn Mathews, Tiernan Cahill, Kurt Dineen Caroll, Owen Kelly and Patrick Corcoran were delighted to see their film “Finding Happiness Within” shown on the big screen. It was chosen from a large entry for live screening. The boys really enjoyed the experience. Ben Holden was sadly missing due to a clashing activity.
