Please see the link to the Subject Option Booklet Information which Ms McEntee has put together for students and parents. This will be a great source of information for those of you going into 5th year in September. Choosing subjects and deciding whether to do LCVP or not involves many decisions which can only be done when sound information is taken into account. Anyone who missed either the Parent's or the Students' presentations can also check out the many relevant websites such as www.curriculumonline.ie and others listed in the booklet.

Cian Aird (TY A) James Carroll (TY A) Stephen Keegan (TY B) Cian Territt (TY C) Ben Wall (TY C) Fergus Sheehy (TY C) Ms Tavolieri (The BOI representative) was very complimentary on how well their applications were put together and their efforts in the training programme she provided for them. To date, the team, together with Ms Travoleiri, have helped 16 students to open new bank accounts with BOI. Ms Tavolieri also gave a presentation to Ms Bracken's 5th year mathematics class on 'Financial Literacy' which was very insightful and well received. There will be more opportunities for collaboration in the near future.

Well done to any of the TY’s who took part in the Oesophageal Cancer Collection on March 1st! Maria Mulhall, thanked the people of Laois for their generosity. She said: “The charity would like to extend their sincere appreciation for all the donations received from the good people of Portlaoise. “It would not have been possible without the help of all the enthusiastic volunteers (including TY students of Portlaoise CBS), and of course the local businesses for facilitating the collection, namely; Mulhall’s Supervalu, Shaws, Aldi, and Kyle centre.” The Oesophageal Cancer Fund was established to promote awareness of the symptoms of this cancer, improve care and treatment of oesophageal cancer patients and to fund research projects. (Thanks to Laois Today for the report)

Congratulations to our Meitheal Leaders who attended their graduation cermony in Carlow last Friday. The team made up of Rian O' Connell (Team Leader), Rory Foyle, John Startin, Robert Hayes, Alex Boateng, Gareth O'Brien, Liam Kinsella, Sean Sherdian, Miak Ikpomwen and Shane Dalton (missing from photo). The Meitheal programme is designed to educate and empower young people in their schools. Our Meitheal leaders have played an integral role in assisting our first years settle into second level school. The Meitheal leaders have organised a number of activities for first year students throughout the year including an activity afternoon, soccer leagues, a trip to the cinema and a teacher vs students match. They are actively involved in facilitating the first year religion retreats and helping on a number of school activities. They are currently organising their final activity and are busy hunting for talent! We are very grateful for all the work and the support they and their co-coordinator Ms D. Carroll have provided throughout the year. We wish them all the very best in their exams in June.
