It has come to our attention that there are a number of students who wish to opt out of the ‘expedition’ element of the Gaisce Bronze Medal Challenge . After 7 months of weekly endeavour it is inconceivable to Ms.O’Connell, Ms. Mulhare and I that the boys would give up the chance of this prestigious award. It also must be said yet again that Gaisce is compulsory to graduate TY. Parents please take note and insist that your sons finish the Gaisce challenge. It represents self discipline and shows motivation , all the qualities our TY programme promotes. Apathy must be resisted at all costs and ambition rewarded! On that note we were so proud of our TY mini company teams who did so well today in winning the regional finals in the Enterprise competition. Great work by students and teachers Ms. Lynch, Ms.Moore and Ms Buckley.

Our first year rugby boys travelled to Togher today to play the local Derby Vs Mountrath CS. St Marys CBS got off to a great start with Captain Jake Andrews running in a well worked try. CBS kept up the pressure with Aaron Foley and Conor Raggett running in two well worked tries. Mountrath came back into the game with increased pressure. Having said this St Marys CBS absorbed the pressure and worked themselves back down the pitch. With a great break from Evan Bergin to take play deep into the Mountrath half. Jake Andrews picked from the back of a scrum and saw nothing only the white wash as he powered over for a great solo try. Mountrath werent done though and came back with two great tries. St Marys CBS continued to to turn the screw and more tries from Andrews and Raggett followed by a brace from PJ Larkin finished off the game as a contest. Final score CBS 52 Mountrath CS 10. Well done to the boys and their coach Conor Ryan! Ones to watch Jake Darcy Aaron Foley and an outstanding performance from man of the match Evan Bergin Scorers Tries Jake Andrews X3 Conor Raggett X2 Pj Larkin x2 Aaron Foley X1 Conversions C.Raggett X4 A.Foley PJ Larkin Big thank you to Portlaoise rugby club for feeding the team and managers today.
