Our U14 hurlers suffered a defeat today at the Hands of Cistercian College Roscrea. After making the trip down to Roscrea on a warm spring day we played the Final Group game of the U14 hurling Championship. CCR started the stronger working up a 5 point lead after about 8 minutes. We battled back with a quick goal and a point. Following this CCR rallied again to go 1-8 to 1-2 into a half time lead. A strong pep talk at half-time had Portlaoise come out guns blazing at the start of the second half. Captain Barry Fitzpatrick hitting 4 frees and a goal to get us back in contention. CCR hit another goal to have the game tied at 2-11 to 3-8 with a few minutes to go. Unfortunately for Portlaoise we suffered two late goals from CCR to have them run out winners on a scoreline of 4-11 to 3-8. Strong games on the day by Kieran O Donnell, Conor Raggett, Colin McEvoy and Barry Fitz.
