In spite of icy conditions today Sunday, we expect to open as normal on Monday morning. Please take care in your driving and anyone walking or cycling please do be aware of danger. Walking close to the edge of footpaths, throwing ice/snow at passing cars, messing on the footpaths can all have a traffic ending, especially when conditions have been icy in particular. Take care, see you in the morning. MM

Two of our students,Tomas Dunne and Aaron Lynott, have been awarded Certificates of Merit for their volunteer community work. They are both currently in 5th year. The Pramerica Awards identify the top 20 youth volunteers across the entire country and provide schools with an effective way to congratulate and recognise deserving young volunteers and hold them up as role models for other young people. We are delighted for Tomas and Aaron and hope they continue their good work throughout their lives. More and more communities are under pressure to survive and our youth are the key to the future of Irish communities. Well done lads.
First year Rugby

Our first year rugby team played their first competitive league game today against a strong Ard Scoil Athy outfit who had previously beaten Mountrath. It was a great challenge between two very strong teams. Played in great spirits, with some big hits at times. Athy started very strong quickly working up a 14-5 lead going into the break. An injury to Portlaoise prop Ruairí Brennan brought a sudden end to the first half after picking up an ankle injury. Our boys grouped together at half time and started the second half strongly running in a number of supurb tries and moving the ball quick in attack. Despite this Athy kept fighting and in the last few minutes showed excellent spirit to break the CBS defence and run home one final try to finish the game. Ones to watch and players of the game from the CBS, loose head prop Colm Buggy and second row Callum Fogarty.
Final Score CBS 38 -- Athy 21
