On Monday morning, the forecast was shocking, but the transition year group of eighty plus students departed St. Mary’s CBS in high spirits in anticipation of a wonderful packed programme at Carlingford, Co. Louth. Accompanying us were three sporty teachers, Mr. Brennan, Ms. Mulhare (Ireland’s fittest family fame) and Miss Lannon.
The programme involved three days of team building, which included Canadian canoeing, high ropes and laser tag. We arrived at the centre on Monday afternoon, initially dreading the thought of jumping in the cold sea. However we all survived and it was generally agreed that the water activities were the highlight of the trip.”Storm Ali “brought an abrupt end to our third and final day, but we all realised to that we were lucky to have enjoyed the previous two days, considering the Ploughing Championships had to be called off.
It’s considered to be the first real bonding experience for the year group and it certainly was in so far as people who may have found the prospect of three days away with eighty odd lads slightly daunting, but in the event those same lads found it to be a really fun-filled experience. I would highly recommend it to any future transition year students Adventure Centre 17th – 19th September 2018

It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to Joshua Okonkwo yesterday afternoon. Joshua sat his Leaving Certificate in June 2017 and went on to study medicine in the Ukraine. During the summer he was teaching English in Spain and it was here that he tragically drowned. Joshua was a gentle soul and a gentleman always. He will be remembered by all of us who knew him in St Marys CBS as quiet spoken and as a young man who always wanted to do his best and to do the right thing. He was always a credit to his family, parents Grace and Chris and his sister Anita. The entire school community wish to extend our sympathy to his parents, sister and extended family who are heartbroken at this time. May you Rest In Peace Joshua.

The boys are helpers on this pilgrimage to the elderly and invalided. They have been working closely with their leader Mr O’Leary, Fr Paddy and the other youth of Kildare and Leighlin in preparation for this pilgrimage!
We are very proud of the lads for their hard work and dedication to the project. They are a living example of the Edmund Rice Ethos.
This picture was taken at Our Lady at The Grotto with the Upper Basilica in the background.
Say a prayer for us all when you are out there boys!

Non Uniform Day €2

A fundraising campaign has been launched to bring past pupil, Daniel Wolski home after he lost the ability to walk in a horror fall while on holiday in Spain.
Daniel had only been in Tenerife one night with his girlfriend when he suffered a serious spinal injury.
Daniel, who was born in Poland but moved to Laois as a child, now faces a race to get home to start rehabilitation at Beaumont hospital in order to regain the use of his legs.
An online Go Fund Me campaign to raise money to bring Daniel home has so far raise €10,000 of the targeted €30,000.
We, along with many other organisations in Portlaoise, are showing our support to Daniels 'Bring him home' campaign by holding a non uniform day on Friday the 7th of Sept. (a €2 donation is asked for of each student). The staff will also contribute to a coffee morning and all proceeds will go towards bringing Daniel home.
We would appreciate your support!
