Our Second Year footballers defeated Heywood in their first Championship match on Friday last

The CBS started strong in the first half with an early goal from 1st Year student
Ethan O’Connor, who was set up by James Doody.
There were some strong points kicked by David Timmons as he showed composure slotting a few over the bar.
A good pass from Ethan Neilon set up Ethan O’Connor for a tap in finish for a goal.
Two excellent saves from Dáire Brosnan saw St. Mary’s CBS leading comfortably at the break.

The CBS continued their scoring in the second half as a solid team performance proved too strong for Heywood, who were missing some players due to county finals at the weekend.
Man of the Match, as voted by coaches and players was hat-trick hero Ethan O’Connor!

The lads face Presentation Carlow at home this Friday on the school pitch at 10.30am,
all support welcome.

Special thanks to TY students Seamus Ramsbottom and Rhys Kelly for the match report and photos.

On Friday morning our Senior debating team came up against @scoilchriostri_portlaoise as they battled it out regarding the motion that "Continuous assessment should be implemented in schools".
With a strong aptitude towards debating in both schools, the speakers on the day were excellent and it was Kyle John who stood out as he commanded the stage earning himself best speaker.
@debatingscr were deserved winners on the day as each team member spoke fantastically.
The debate was held in the GPA as first years from both schools watched attentively. There is a growing interest in debating within our school and we look forward to seeing you all compete in the future!
We are so proud of all the speakers for their courage and bravery to get up and talk infront of such a large crowd. Without a doubt there will be more debates to come so watch out for a rematch in the near future.
St. Mary’s CBS speakers on the day were Kyle John, Aaron Branagan and Jack Murell.
Special thanks to TY students;
Harry McGree who provided the report,
Matthew O’Rourke and Tom Delaney for capturing the photos and
Andrew Coyne and Jack Heffernan for helping set up the GPA and mics.

The U15 soccer team started their league campaign on Thursday v Maynooth CC.

Despite early dominance, St. Mary’s CBS conceded the first goal from a quick counterattack. The boys responded immediately with a neat finish from Jack Cleland after some good work from Ethan Neilon. David Wajrak added a quick second when he was first to a rebound. Ethan’s powerful shot was deflected in to add a third.
Maynooth fought back but a second from Jack Cleland left it 4-3 to Portlaoise at the break. The boys finally made their dominance count and pulled away in the last quarter with goals from Dan Downey and two more from MOTM Jack Cleland.
Final score 7-3 to St. Mary’s CBS. Well done all.

It’s getting spooky in the art room this week with the first years making ceramic pumpkin pinch pots. They hand built the pinch pots before bisque firing them in the kiln and adding colourful glazes and glass shards which resulted in some very bright and happy looking pumpkin pots and tea light holders. The countdown to midterm break has well and truely started here! #ceramics #prettypumpkins #fromeachtheirbest
