TYB studied mammalian anatomy yesterday by dissecting rats as part of their Biology module. In LC Biology we study human anatomy and physiology but it is similar enough to all other mammals. The lads were equal parts delighted and disgusted! They did great at following the specific instructions on making incisions and identifying organs and structures. Well done all!

Yesterday the CBS travelled up to Wesley College in Dublin to play the second round of group games. Wesley College came out strong scoring the first try of the game but Portlaoise didn’t back down and answered back shortly after with a try from Evan Caffrey. But Wesley College kept their pace up, going on to score back to back tries.
The CBS got one back before half time to make it 19-14, down 5, at the break.
Both teams came back out strong with the CBS making their mark with a try from Callum Leonard. Wesley scored their final try before a superb try from Adam Glynn meant that the CBS would win the game. Matthew Coonan’s kicking was the difference in this game with a final difference of only two points. Final score St. Mary’s CBS win, 26-24. Well done lads and coaches!
Thanks to TY students Danny Farrell and Patrick O’Callaghan for the match report and photos!
TY's take part in Virtual Driving Academy

This week our TY's took part in a Virtual Driving Academy. We were thrilled to have them visit the school as they are the first company in Ireland to introduce car simulators to teach people of all ages to drive. It provided
practical and effective training for our students who experienced all kinds of situations from city traffic to country roads, night driving to rain and fog or sleet. They also got to experience manual and automatic driving.
The students learned how to -
- Handle an emergency
- Handle high speeds and narrow roads
- Swerving and skidding out of difficult situations
- Driving in different weather conditions
- Driving in different environments such as urban and rural areas.
There was high competition between the lads to see who could complete the course and who may need some more practice.
We would like to thank the Drive Virtual Academy for giving so much time to our TY’s who really enjoyed the two days.
