Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are currently reviewing our school's purpose and mission.

It is important that we get input from students, parents, staff, and other stakeholders on this.

The Youth Academy, University of Galway on-campus courses Spring 2025

The Youth Academy, University of Galway, are running on-campus courses in Spring 2025 (8th, 15th February & 1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th March 2025)
 
General applications will open, tomorrow, Friday 10th January and close on Thursday 16th January.
 
The entry requirements changed last year - and can be found here.  (Please note students who are in their first year but have not yet sat standardised tests at secondary level can use their 6th class school standardised test reports).

Planet Youth Survey

TY and 5th Year students have received a letter today regarding the Planet Youth survey that will be conducted with students in all Galway, Mayo and Roscommon  schools. The information collected will be used to inform efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of young people in our communities.

 

Students will be invited to complete an anonymous online survey that includes questions about their lifestyles, behaviours and health. The survey will take about 50 minutes and will be completed in a classroom setting.

 

The Planet Youth Survey is an important study that the school participates in every two years. If though, for any reason, you do not wish your child to participate in the survey, please complete the form included with the letter and return it to the office before Friday.

Planet Youth is hosting a free webinar on Thursday the 14th of November at 8pm entitled What’s in your Vape?

The webinar will look at the current levels of vaping in our region among young people, the risks involved to our children’s health, how it compares to cigarette use, and how other legal and illegal substances such as HHC or THC may also be involved.

Deadline to register your vote for the upcoming general election

This is a message from the ISSU (Irish Second Level Students Union) to remind you that the deadline for registering to vote in the upcoming general election is tomorrow, Tuesday, the 12th of November.
  • If you are a student living outside of Dublin: go to checktheregister.ie and register with your PPS number, your date of birth, your Eircode, and proof of identification.
Please look out for more information from the ISSU over the coming weeks in regards to the general election. Did you know that for every vote cast by those under 35, there are approximately two votes cast by over 50s? Let’s ensure a balanced representation - your vote matters now more than ever! It is vital that as many young people as possible cast their vote. You can also refer to the attached PDF to register to vote.

The main speaker is Lucy Wolfe and she will be giving some information and guidance around this topic. 

 

 

Lucy is best known for the books she has written on sleep for young children, but she has prepared some very useful material specifically for the parents of teenagers.

Boiling Water - Health & Safety

For the safety of all students and staff, boiling water will not be provided for preparing noodles or similar snacks in school.

Carrying hot items poses a risk in a busy school environment.

We kindly ask that students not bring such items to school.

CAO Information Meeting for 6th Year Parents/Guardians

Dear 6th Year Parent/Guardian,

Our Career Guidance teacher, Ms. O’Callaghan, will be holding an informational meeting for 6th Year parents on Thursday, 28th November 2024, at 7:00 pm in Rosary Hall. The session will cover college options, the CAO application process, and essential details on college applications and financial planning.

6th Year students are also welcome to attend.
