The junior debaters made history on Tuesday 25th April as they debated against each other in the Wicklow Co. Council Environmental Debates semi-final. This is the first time that two teams from the same school reached this stage of the competition. Isabella Ni Chonaill, Lorianne O'Rourke, Caoimhe Byrne and Ciaran O'Sullivan (sub) proposed the motion that "It is through the enforcement of litter laws and not educational campaigns that we will rid the country of our litter problems". The opposition team consisted of Max Moroney, Laura Ivers and Laura Gallagher. It was a difficult decision for the adjudicators who were divided on the result but eventually the chairperson deemed the motion to be defeated. Max, Laura and Laura will now go forward to the final in three weeks time. Well done to all for their exceptional commitment and teamwork. As first years they have many more opportunities at the podium ahead of them. Sincere thanks to Ms Gahan.

Teen Safe from Child Watch is a unique digital education experience for Irish students. On Wednesday, 26th April all junior cycle students were treated to an inspiring, thought provoking, practical and sobering talk by Pat Mac Namara of Childwatch. Each presentation was tailored to the needs and ages of each year group and combined theory and demonstration of the following topics; > psychology of the internet > the canvas - internet and app's > searching online - OSINT and big data > how you appear online - images and text > dark side - online harassment > painting your own picture - designing YOU online Feedback from students and teachers alike was incredibly positive. Without a doubt, all involved left the talk having learned something new and far more aware and informed about the dangers lurking in digital space. It is important to take the time to discuss today's talk with your child. Sincere thanks to Pat for his candid and engaging presentations. Special thanks to our Parents' Association who sponsored the workshop for 1st, 2nd, 3rd years. We hope to do something similar for parents and senior students in the autumn. we will keep you posted!

T.Y. Trip to Killary Adventure Centre Killary

On 3rd of April, 101 students set off on what is always the highlight of TY in Coláiste Bhríde. Some students had packed for what seemed a round the world trip and, with 2 weighed down buses, we were on our way to Killary. Once settled into their rooms the students got stuck into activities from the moment we arrived. The staff at the adventure centre were second to none and had each student involved in activities from day one. Students completed the Mud Run, Gorge Walking, Cliff Diving, Kayaking, Big Swing and High Ropes just to name a few and they also completed their Gaisce walk. There wasn't a drop of rain during the whole week so spirits remained high from morning to night. The highly contested dodgeball competition was held on Monday night and on the same night, two of our students broke Killary records! Ciara Shannon proved to be the most flexible and Gavin Goodwin was our Table Topper champ! Mr & Miss Killary was held on Thursday evening and there are some things, we as teachers are trying vigorously to erase from our memories!! There was even a guest appearance from Beyoncé (a.k.a Mr Hegarty). After a catwalk, question round and talent show, the judges crowned Frank Kavanagh as Miss Killary & Teresa Doyle as Mr Killary 2017. One of the highlights for both teachers and students was our sing song around the bonfire where Sarah Mulhall proved how talented she really is. The week ended with all students sitting together watching a slideshow of all the photos we gathered during the week. During the week the students gave it their all. They pulled and pushed each other over and under obstacles. They slagged each other (and the teachers!). They shared many a Pot Noodle together, fears were conquered and lots of selfies were taken. It's fair to say that friendships were made, fun was had and 101 tired students crawled onto their buses and reluctantly headed home on Friday. Each student was a credit to the school and all 10 instructors, including the centre management, commented on how well behaved and mannerly our students were. It was a pleasure to take these students to Killary and they certainly did themselves and their school proud. Ms. Healy, Ms. Moran & Mr. Hegarty

Transition Year students are participating in the Gaisce Award. They are aiming to achieve the Bronze award. Each student is required to participate in three activities, a personal skill, a community involvement and a physical recreation. They must commit to spending an hour each week for thirteen weeks to two of these activities and an hour a week for twenty-six weeks to the third activity. Having completed these activities they must undertake an adventure journey. As a personal skill some of the T.Y students took up sign language.

We had a great day. Started with music in the Basilica and an inspiring talk from Donal Walsh's mum Elma. We also learned more about the awards system. After lunch we had a ceremony in the apparition church and a procession back into the basilica for Mass. Aoife Kehoe represented the Ferns Diocese by doing a prayer of the faithful. Around 1000 students from around the country attended and this created a wonderful atmosphere. Was definitely worth the 7 hour round drive!! Thanks to Ms Beirne who accompanied our students Aoife Kehoe, Cathal Doyle, Eoin Donlon and Ellen Doran.

Paddy O'Connell from Laois came to Coláiste Bhríde on Monday 3rd April to talk to our 5th year business students about his journey as an entrepreneur with his business PaddyO's cereals. He talked about areas of business such as business start up, finance, marketing, product development and management. This was very informative and beneficial to our students. The students can now relate their theory from business class to a real life successful business. Students got the opportunity to sample some of the products that are currently for sale in Tesco, Dunnes Stores and SuperValu. During the questions and answers section, Paddy kindly gave out free boxes of granola to those students who came up with the best questions for him. A big thanks to Ms Rothwell, Ms Davitt and Ms Culkin

Charlesland Sport & Recreational Park held its annual Track and Field event today. Our athletes took part in the javelin, shot put, 100 meters, and tug of war disciplines. If all our students did their best to well represent the school, Caitroin Doyle was the student on the day on the field, with outstanding performances in both the shot put and the javelin, where she respectively finished in 3rd and 2nd position. Well done to all! Many thanks to Ms Lavelle.
