What excitment and sense of occasion there was at the second night of the Eastern Region Junk Kouture held in the Helix, DCU on Friday,3rd March. Our supporters, teachers and parents were shouting for"Heal The World" (Caoimhe Gregan-Hickey, Claudia Farrar and Shannon Hayes)) and "Read All About It" (Taylor Hedderman, Jamie McClean and Leanne Fuller). Caoimhe was third out onto the catwalk and she got the audience right behind her clapping and singing as she performed. Taylor was twelfth out of eighty-two costumes on the night. Her Victorian style outfit was spectacular as was her performance to music from Alice in Wonderland and The Lion King. Congratulations to both groups, this is a huge achievement. Judges on the night were: Dr. Tracey Fahey, Jane Leavy, Rhys Ellis andJose Varnandes. The ever lively hosts were Eleanor Fitzgerald and Ed Roche. While the Coláiste Bhríde girls will not showcase their fabulous outfits in the final we congratulate them for the huge effort and achievement getting their creative outfits on stage in The Helix. It is an experience of a lifetime! And well deserved. Sincere thanks to Ms Elliott who supported and guided the girls from the start. Thank you to Mrs. Byrne for her support and for organising the supporter bus. Supporters - you were just what our Junk Kouture girls needed! As always sincere thanks to our parents. Girls Junior A Football Champions

On Thursday, 2nd the Coláiste Bhríde Carnew girls travelled to Arklow to play in Pearse Park against Dominican College Wicklow for the title of Junior A county champions. Going into this match both sides knew that this was going to be a difficult as both teams were hungry for the title. From the first whistle there was a tension in the air as both teams did not want to give away any precious scores. Ten minutes passed before a score was converted, our own Emma Tomkins made the initial break through. This settled the game as each girl knew that by working together we would slowly rack up the points. Both the Carnew and Wicklow town girls battled in order to carry the ball up to their sides of the field. The Wicklow girls answered the point quickly. Throughout the first half both teams matched each other by points. A variety of frees were taken by Abby Doyle who showed great composure and skill in order to convert scores on such a momentous day. After twenty five minutes the Wicklow side managed to secure a goal in Shanyn McLoughlin's net which was closely followed by a second one. At that point in the game our girls needed to make a decision: lie down and take defeat or stand up and fight for the title that we worked so hard all year for. Great credit to the girls, they dug deep, kept their heads high and managed to secure a variety of points and goals in the final moments of the second half in order to ensure that we were three points ahead when the half time whistle blew. The girls knew that despite having a three point lead they would not walk away with a title at this point in the game. We needed to continue what we were doing while digging down deeper to ensure we could bring the title back with us to Carnew. With the blow of the second whistle the Wicklow town side battled for every ball, using as much physical strength as they could muster in order to try and close the gap in the lead. Despite their valiant efforts the Carnew side could not be defeated. Anna Lalor suffered a minor injury during her spectacular performance while Caoimhe Murphy also suffered an injury. Despite the injuries that seemed to be consistent in the second half we pulled through and managed to secure a total of four goals and seven points in total. The Dominican side could not match the passion and drive that we presented to them. When the final whistle blew a wave of relief and excitement overcame everyone involved. The final score was 4-7 to 3-7 in favour of our girls. Although all the girls put in an excellent performance, Anna Lalor, Emma Tomkins, Zoe Katus, Jade Shannon, Lauren Byrne, Aishling Wintherbotham and Shanyn McLoughlin demonstrated the true spirit of the game today. The win on Thursday meant that our captain, Lauren Byrne, and vice captain, Aishling Winterbotham, could accept the title of Junior A Champions on the behalf of the team. Lauren Byrne accepted the title graciously while making a speech that included everyone that made the victory possible. We stand proud county champions! We would like to thank the parents who travelled to the final today in order to support the girls, it does mean a lot to everyone of us on the sideline to know that you are a constant source of encouragement and support for us all on the pitch. I would also like to thank management for all of the support throughout the campaign this year and finally, to the girls. I would like to mention how proud I am to have mentored such a fantastic group of athletes all year, the determination, dedication and team work is unparrallelled. I'm so proud of each and every one of you and you should be proud of yourselves. As I said to you girls, I have never been so proud of a group of young women before and I would like to thank you all for your belief and commitment to the team. You deserved the win today like you deserve the title! Ms Whelan. And of course a huge congratulations to their coach Ms Whelan who has worked so hard with this great group of girls all year! A real team effort! Congrats!
An Exciting Day on German Exchange

The German Exchange students visited the city of Wolfsburg on Thursday, 2nd March, along with their exchange partners. Though the weather was sometimes a bit rainy, the students nevertheless had a great day. To begin, they visited an interactive science museum which allowed students a chance to perform many experiments based around the laws of physics. Highlights included lying on a bed of nails and a gravity defying house, but thankfully all students made it out alive (and hopefully with a renewed love of science!) After this, the students were brought to 'AutoStadt' and shown the main facility of Volkswagen in Germany. Through a guided bus tour, the students were given a behind the scenes look at how the cars are made, and one could not help but be impressed by the sheer scale of the operation. The Volkswagen facility is as big as small town (6.5km sq.) and employs almost 70,000 people. Nearly 4,000 cars are manufactured there every day, and students were given an up close look at how this was done. Students will return to lessons tomorrow, before a day with their host families on Saturday. Sincere thanks to Ms Burke and Mr. Conniffe.

The students of the German exchange visited Hamburg on Wednesday, 1st March, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. After a long train journey (three hours), they were shown some of the main shopping streets of the city, along with the Town Hall. After a chance to shop and get food, the students took a boat down the river and were brought to a newly constructed Opera House, which cost nearly 900 Million euro. The students were brought to a balcony near the top of the building, where one can have an unbelievable view of the city on both sides of the river. After this, they went to the Hamburg Dungeons, an excellent production where they were shown the history of the city and its (at times gruesome) past. A scary, but very entertaining, event and a real highlight of the day. They then had to rush back to the Hauptbahnof to return home and, though there were a couple of delays, all students arrived safely back in Lehrte that evening. The students are now looking forward to a trip to Wolfsburg on Thursday, where they will be accompanied by their exchange partners. Special thanks to Ms Burke and Mr. Conniffe.

The Junior Boys football team got their campaign off to a winning start against Arklow CBS today. The game was played in very blustery conditions in Pearse Park, Arklow. Playing into a strong wind in the first half, CB got off to a great start by scoring 1-1 in the first few minutes. However 2 quick goals from Arklow ensured a tight half of football followed. Some great scores were traded in very difficult decisions and with 15 minutes still to play only 1 point separated the teams. However a strong finish by the CB lads ensured a well earned victory on a scoreline of 8-6 to 5-6. The CB side now host Gaelcholaiste na Mara in the quarter final next week.
