As part of our positive mental health initiative, Ms. Brookes and Ms. Drummond accompanied forty enthusiastic students to the Student Leaders Congress in UL. This Congress is organised by Cycle Against Suicide-Break the Cycle. The mantra for the day was "It's OK not to feel OK and it's absolutely OK to ask for help". It was a full day seminar, MCs were Colm Hayes and Dustin the Turkey. Speakers included Dr. Eddie Murphy from Operation Transformation fame, Helen McEntee- Minister for Mental Health, Gerry Daly who participates in marathons and triathlons, Nuala Tyrrell, Dublin footballers and a whole host of other speakers who shared their recovery stories. There was poetry, dance, song and the Strypes were the headline music act. This was the first time CB attended such an event. We are delighted to bring such positive feedback from the day. More events to follow.

On a freezing Saturday the 17 December, after serenading the citizens of Carnew in St Brigit's hall on the Friday night with an eclectic selection of Christmas Classics, the CBC folk group assembled and boarded a bus bound for Kilkenny City where a music-packed day awaited them. They were invited back to play a slot in Kilkenny Castle's Picture Gallery in the afternoon, but before that they had a booking in the city centre in Butler House where they performed a 30-minute set. In both venues they were performing alongside professional musicians yet they held their own. Then it was a quick hot chocolate to warm up the hands and off they went to Kilkenny Castle where they wowed the audience with their exciting blend of the modern, the old and the traditional. They are already pre-booked in advance for next year! This was followed by a well-earned lunch in town before commandeering the central town hall on High Street in Kilkenny city where they attracted a huge crowd with their festive, high-energy performance. Overall it was an extremely successful trip with nothing but the most positive feedback from one and all. We look forward to the events, collaboration and performances that 2017 will bring for this talented group. Sincere thanks to Mr Callanan.

TY Geography Field Trip

Just prior to the Christmas break on Monday the 19th of December, two Transition Year groups, 4 Beech and 4 Elm travelled to Courtown to undertake a Geography Field Study. Students got the opportunity to carry out practical fieldwork that concentrated on the geomorphic processes within a coastal environment. This involved measuring the beach profile, completing a bed load analysis and studying the effects of longshore drift and erosion along the Wexford coastline. An enjoyable day was had although some managed to get a bit wetter than expected! It was a valuable experience as student gained a realistic flavour of how to carry out the Leaving Certificate Geography coursework which would be worth 20% of the final grade. Thank you to our Parents' Association for sponsoring this new and valuable equipment. We plan to use it with our Leaving Certificate Students in the future. Thank you to Ms Neville and Mr. Davies.

Ski Trip 2017 A Poem from Emily Hadden.... -32 students took off with Italy in sight, while 3 teachers followed fearing the flight .. -Although we had a lack of snow, it didn't stop this group from putting on a show .. -The first day brought lots of slips and slides, but by the end we all flew down the mountainsides..u -Katus hits the big slope and takes a tumble, while Kavanagh is gone without a stumble .. -Speedy Loughnane took off fast, Leaving Rickerby dead last .. -Skis came off and skates came out, this is when we started to really mess about .. -San Martino de Castrozza in the Dolomites has already given 2017 a bunch of highlights .. -New friends, new memories, new skills, were all brought out and displayed on the hills.. -A group like this is one we're sure the teachers will miss, while all the students will continue to reminisce ...
