As part of their religion programme for the year, LCA II students went on an overnight trip to Durrow in Co. Laois on Friday, 24th March/Saturday, 25th March. The trip was organised to enable the students to participate in a Youth Mix event. These events are run throughout the year in order to facilitate faith formation amongst teenagers. The overnight stay allows teenagers time to think about various aspects or questions of faith, and also to get involved in indoor and outdoor sporting activities and team games. The LCAs were excellent ambassadors for our school and have already been invited to the next event! Well done to those who participated! Many thanksto Ms Brookes. Ms. Brooks

On Thursday March 30th Coláiste Bhríde travelled to Aughrim to take on Gaelcholáiste na Mara of Arklow in the Wicklow schools boys football senior final. In a repeat of the 2015 final the team from Arklow was much fancied heading into the game, retaining 12 players from the final 2 years ago. On a very damp evening CB played with the wind in the first half and despite dominating possession in the middle third of the field they found scores hard to come by when faced by a crowded and determined GCM defence. In fact heading into half time a quick counter attacking GCM were leading 3 points to 2 before a monster kick from 50 yards by Robbie Brookes tied things up at the break. Whatever managers, Mr Nolan and Mr Morris, said at half-time worked to great effect as CB came roaring into the game at the beginning of the 2nd half. Playing into a stiff breeze the Carnew men scored two quick goals, firstly from Daragh Brookes and secondly from young Eoin Darcy which was worth the entry fee alone! Shortly after however Carnew were dealt a tough and somewhat unfortunate blow when centre back Dean Grandy received his 2nd yellow card and subsequent marching orders from referee Anthony Nolan. Given the tough and slippy conditions this seemed a bit harsh on the man from Coolboy! However his team dug deep and defended as if their lives depended on it! The two 2nd half goals proved vital as the CB boys held out for a famous 3 point win on a score line of 2-5 to 0-8. There were joyous scenes as the full time whistle blew leaving captain Donnacha McDonald to receive the cup on behalf of his delighted team mates. Congratulations lads on a great victory and well done to Mr Nolan and Mr Morris who trained the team.

Gáisce is an important part of our TY programme. The majority of TY students are busy and totally involved in reaching personal targets for their full bronze Gáisce award before the beginning of May. Students make personal choices about what they want to achieve. The range of personal challenges is amazing. The students in this photo have chosen sign language and have completed this in The Enterprise Centre, Carnew. Congratulations to students receiving their certificates in Irish Sign Language from Catherine Stuart, Examiner with the Irish Sign Language Association and their tutor, Mary Blake. The thirteen week course in ISL will go towards their Bronze Gáisce Award."

The 5th and 6th year art students visited Dublin on Tuesday, 28th March for their annual art history trip. The first stop was IMMA, the Irish Museum of Modern Art where we had a guided tour of the Lucian Freud exhibition. This was followed by lunch in town and then on to the National Museum, Kildare St. to view the Bronze Age jewellery. Due to overbooking and much of the National Gallery being closed for refurbishment, not all the group could be facilitated at the next stop. Those who couldn't enter were brought to visit the public sculptures of the Setanta Centre. A busy and worthwhile day for all. Thanks you to Mr. Lynch and Ms Elliott.

The All Ireland Interschools Hunter Trials took place on Saturday 25th March, hosted by Borris Vocational School. The venue this year was Curracruit, Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining from start to finish. The event was superbly organised and this was evident with the smooth running of the competitions on the day. Representing Coláiste Bhríde, Nicole Kelly and Pierre Woods competed in the senior individual competition. Both had fantastic rounds but unfortunately the knockable obstacle kept them out of the prizes. Competing in the junior individuals was Ella Byrne, Stephen Sharry, Katie Nolan, Caitroin Doyle, Rachel D'Arcy, Conor Wafer and Adam Hadden. All students and horses completed the course with smiles on their faces. The All Ireland is known for being extremely competitive and this year was no different. Out of 158 entires, the winner of the junior individuals finished clear in a time of 3 minutes 50 seconds. Despite 7 of the Coláiste Bhríde rounds being completed with zero faults, the time kept some of our riders out of the ribbons. Ella Byrne was the fastest of the Coláiste Bhríde students, finishing clear in a time of 3:56 on her pony Paulbeg Sapphire and 3:58 on Paulbeg Cointreau. These times secured 4th and 5th place for Ella. First year student, Rachel D'Arcy, tackling the All Ireland Interschools Hunter Trials course for her first time, flew around the course in a time of 4:05 to finish in 8th place. Well done to all our competitors.
