This morning our student council officers handed over our collection of 130+ shoe boxes, gift bags, handbags and sleeping bags to Don McGuinness of Irish Flexible Packaging. He is heading the collection point in our community for the Christmas Box for the Homeless 2016 Appeal. The student council spearheaded this initiative as part of our iMatter Positive Mental Health programme. By spending some time and energy thinking of others less fortunate, we can get a better appreciation for our own lot in life. With Homelessness figures in the capital alone expected to exceed 6000 this Christmas, these thoughtful gifts might offer a little bit of light or hope in what can be a very tough time of the year for some. Thanks to all students, parents and friends who helped.

On Tuesday, 22nd November the athletics team went back up to the beautiful grounds on Avondale, in Rathdrum, for the final and longest cross-country race of the year. Each student, in their respective year group, had to run 2000 meters. The good weather attracted a very large number of students, which made each race more competitive and challenging. Laura Ivers, 1st year, once again gave a great performance and finished in 8th position in her category. Both Aoife Kennedy and Lucy Kemple had very positive races too, and placed themselves in the first half of the runners. In the boys categories, Cathal Rooney, Dean Mc Guinness, and Max Mc Guire also completed their race in good position. As for the Seniors, Fintan Smith was the strongest runner on the day, finishing among the first 20 athletes, out of over 45 runners. Sincere thanks to Ms Lavelle. Well done to all.

On November 25th John Young, Eoin Young and Cormac Redmond contested the Leinster Junior Golf Strokeplay Final. Having played brilliantly to advance from the regional qualifier in Kilkenny in October, the lads travelled to Tullfarris golf club to compete with the best schools in Leinster. With only 1 of the 12 teams in the final to progress to the All-Ireland series it was going to be a big ask. Although they didn't manage to land top spot the boys did themselves proud on a long and tough championship course. This experience will stand to our team as all 3 players are underage again next year. Well done on a successful year lads!

Coláiste Bhríde 2-1 Gorey C.S There was a superb performance from the CBC U-15 soccer team today against Gorey C.S. Having won their previous game 6-0, Gorey came into today's game confident. Despite this, CBC were unfazed and started the game by far the better of the two teams. The central midfield partnership of Bradley Hickey and Daniel Hedderman dictated the play from the word go, and prevented Gorey from building any kind of momentum in attack. CBC were first to every ball and were rewarded midway through the first half with a quality long range effort from Eoin Kavanagh, which sailed past the keeper into the top left corner. Despite playing against the wind, CBC were the better team and deservedly went in 1-0 up at half time. The second half started in equally impressive fashion, with a deflected shot from Daniel Hedderman making it 2-0 a few minutes into the second half. There were chances to increase the lead, but Gorey fought back and put the team under large periods of pressure. The defence however, marshalled by the excellent Ryan Gilfoyle and Cillian McDonald, were equal to the task. A couple of injuries led to some enforced changes at the back, and with some players being moved into unfamiliar positions, Gorey managed to take advantage and pull a goal back. CBC managed to hang on however and, thanks to a titanic defensive effort in the last ten minutes, were declared the worthy winners. Every member of the squad deserves credit for their performance today. However, special mention must go to Eoin Kavanagh on a second superb goal in as many games, Caoimhin Rawsom for pulling off an incredible save in the final few minutes, and the captain Ryan Gilfoyle for managing to overcome an injury to come back onto the pitch for the final few minutes, steadying the ship and making a vital last ditch tackle to prevent the equaliser. The team will now look forward to a semi final, and can be very proud of their performance.

Our Green-Schools Ambassador, Caoimhe Coady, attended an exciting workshop in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dublin on Wednesday, 23rd November. This workshop included: group communication activities, talks from the Green-Schools and Clean Coasts Programmes and a field trip to Ringsend wastewater treatment plant. Caoimhe got the opportunity to tour the workings of the plant which treats wastewater for a population of 1.9 million. Caoimhe has various ideas which she will share with her Green School committee members and then begin to implement in our school and community. This will help us all become more aware of how our daily actions affect our community and people all over the world.

Today the girls junior team played against St. Mary's College Arklow in Arklow in the county competition. The junior team was missing a variety of players but that did not stop our girls who performed excellently. From the throw in the girls played together as one team. Every girl played to the best of their ability as they worked together. The demonstration of skill and commitment to the team was demonstrated throughout the game. Arklow attempted to break the Carnew back line but with Rebecca Barnes, Aishling Wintherbotham and Mollie Mulroe there was no chance for the Arklow side to produce any scores. Aoibhinn Myers, Siofra Byrne and Abby Doyle worked together to move the ball up the pitch and converted many scores throughout the first half. Maude Robinson Greene managed to score a beautiful goal half way through the first half. Half time saw a new lease of life come over our girls. Only one goal managed to pass Shanyn McLoughlin, our goal keeper, throughout the game but that didn't deter her as she played in the goal before moving outfield. Nadine Fitzgerald stepped up to the plate in goal showing great determination. The girls slotted a number of goals into the Arklow net due to the constant battling of Aoibhinn Myers and team work of the forward line including Emma Doyle, Alannah Davidson and Sara Kavanagh. The final score was 10-6 to 2-7. Amanda Kidd, Lauren Byrne, Emma Doyle, Aoibhinn Myers, Shanyn McLoughlin and Maude Robinson Greene played an excellent game today and we are all looking forward to our next junior match within the competition. Congratulations to the entire team on the great win and on your behaviour both on and off the pitch. Today was a display of your character and it showed how much potential this squad has. Special thanks to Ms Whelan and Ms Kavanagh.

Today 23 of our Transition Year students had the opportunity to visit the Central Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin. The aim of the trip was to provide the students with an understanding and insight into the Irish Courts System. Participants on the day were offered the opportunity to partake in a mock trial facilitated by a barrister of the Courts Service. This allowed them to fulfill various court roles including a judge, barristers, solicitors, witnesses and members of the jury. In addition, our students and teachers were fortunate enough to be afforded the chance to sit in on actual court proceedings, including a murder trial. The experience was both gripping and eye-opening. Many thanks to Ms Lancaster and Ms Gahan
