The school bank was open again on Thursday Nov 24th at lunchtime. After a very successful week, 38 accounts were opened, which brings the total to 46 accounts. Any students who opened accounts during the week must bring in €5 to any bank team member as soon as possible to activate their accounts if they have not already done so. The €5 is lodged in your account, and can be withdrawn at any time, it is just needed to activate the account. The team would like to thank everyone who has opened accounts and lodged money over the past week, and hope to see more students in the social area next Thursday.

Tullow Community School was the opposition for the senior rugby team in the second round of the McMullen Cup today. It was a very physical encounter with neither team letting in a try in the first half. With both teams kicking two penalties each, there was nothing separating the two teams at half time, a scoreline of 6 - 6 with the Colaiste Bhride points coming from Robbie Brooks. A few indecisive moments at the start of the second half cost heavily, and allowed Tullow to gain good territory and possession which they capitalised on with a converted try. The score remained at 13-6 to Tullow for majority of the second half, as the Carnew players gave everything to claw back into the game. Nevertheless, the Tullow side held strong and again managed to turn over possession to score a converted try, followed by a penalty in the last play . A final score of 23-6 to Tullow Community School.

The U16 footballers had a convincing victory over Wexford CBS in Wexford on Tuesday, 22nd November by a score line of 10-7 to 2-11. In blustery conditions CB got a run of goals mid way through the first half which killed the game off but the Wexford side gave us plenty of problems all the way through. This result gives us a chance to qualify for the quarter final of the league. It was a big team performance where Eoin Darcy, Bradley Hickey and Fionn Furlong stood out. Once again Caoimhin Rawson pulled off two spectacular saves when goals looked certain. Thank you to Mr. Holly and Mr. Hegarty.

The first league game of the U16's year saw Coláiste Bhríde pitted against Gorey CS which was a repeat of the U14 south Leinster final from two years ago. Unfortunately, unlike two years ago Gorey CS came out the victors. In a tough game played in Carnew GAA pitch Gorey was the stronger of the two teams. On the final whistle and a score line of 2-10 to 2-14 the CB footballers were disappointed but all is not lost as two wins against Enniscorthy and Wexford will see them through to the quarter final. On the day Caoimhin Rawson deserves particular mention for pulling off four top drawer saves which Charlie Nelligan would be happy with! Other players of note were Bradley Hickey, Eoin Darcy and Conor Hughes. Sincere thanks to Mr Holly.

Last Thursday lunchtime, our school bank team held the launch for this year's Bank of Ireland school bank. Set up in the social area, the team, made up of James O'Keefe, Kenzie White, Taylor Hedderman, Grace O'Halloran, Roisin McDonald and Sarah Mulhall, opened accounts and helped students lodge money. With help from the Carnew branch manager Breda Curran and the Leinster branch manager Paul Matthews, the team were trained in opening and managing clients' accounts. The team will be in the social area again next Thursday lunchtime, where you can open an account or lodge money completely free of charge. Even if you hold an account with another bank, you can still make a student account with Bank of Ireland. For every 25 bank accounts opened with the school team, €250 is given to the school. Also, there will be prizes and competitions available during the year for account holders.

The senior soccer team had their second outing of the league campaign today with a game against a very good Arklow CBS team at our home pitch in Coolafancy, Conditions were very cool and wintery but that didn't dull the spectecle on the pitch. In what was a very tight first half CB scored first with a tidy finish from Gavin Goodwin close in. The team took this lead into halftime. The second half started with more good football from both sides and CB scored again with great work from Eoin D'Arcy who made some space in midfield and finished low to the goalkeepers left. Arklow scored to make it 2-1 in favour of the home team and set up a nervy finish to the game. CB scored again with 10 minutes to go from a great finish after a break through the defence from Adam Rochford which should have given a more relaxed final 10 minutes but Arklow never gave up and scored again to make it 3-2 with 5 minutes to go but CB held on for the win to leave the team with 1 win and 1 loss from the opening 2 group games. We face Gorey CS in our last group game with much optimism for progression into the knockout stages. Special mention to man of the match Sean Murphy today and Capt. Dean Grandy who were both outstanding along with goalkeeper Darragh Brooks.

On Thursday, 17th November the girls senior team played the county semi-final against the Dominican, Wicklow town in Carnew. The senior team was suffering some serious losses due to a variety of illnesses. Despite this, the girls pulled together and battled hard in the first half. From the throw in the teams played an even game. Our girls were constantly sending balls into the Dominican goal which should have been over the bar however, with the strong wind, each attempt was swept to the side making the three goals secured in the first half more prescious. Dominican attempted to even the score as they relentlessly attacked our goal. Superb skill and composure was shown by Shanyn McLoughlin as she refused to allow any goals into the back of her net. The Wicklow town team eventually ended the second half with 3 points on the score board. The second half saw a change in tempo. The wind and rain was relentless, nevertheless, our girls managed to play through, holding their lead. The second half was definitely working in favour of the Dominican side. They battled hard and managed to pop 6 points over the bar. Spectacular play from Aoibhinn Myers saved our side with a late goal. The final score was 4-1 to 0-12 in favour of Carnew. Roisin Kennedy, Shanyn McLoughlin, Emily Hadden, Aoibhinn Myers, Eabha Barnes and Lauren Byrne played a phenomenal game today but we are all very proud of the real team effort. Thank you so much to Ms Whelan and Ms Ní Bhroin.

Our school golf team played their 2nd inter schools league game on Wednesday 16th of November in Coolatin against FCJ Bunclody. Despite a gallant effort against a lower handicapped team CB lost both games by 2 and 3 down respectively. There was some great golf played with both games competitive to the end. Well done to Josh McGrath, Bill Nolan, Daniel Behan and debutant Cormac Redmond in 2nd year who had a great stat of hitting every fairway in regulation from the tee box! The lads will play Gorey CS on Wednesday the 23rd in their final league game.

After topping our group in the league stages, the junior team were out today in the knockout stage of the Junior Leinster Development Cup. We took on Pres. Bagnelstown in a blustery and bitterly cold Carlow RC for a 1.30 kick off. Unfortunately our inexperience (many players being in 1st or 2nd year) and lack of game time was to show and even though the lads put up a brave fight, especially the pack, it wasn't enough to overcome the more experienced Pres. team who won 36-5

Congratulations to Aoife Kavanagh and Conor Travers who received an Entrance Scholarship at the awards ceremony in UCD on Wednesday, 16th November. Professor Scott stressed to all present that in UCD student experience is central to everything. He also reminded students that the path of learning at university gives more scope to the learner and this must be supported by motivation and enthusiasm by the student. Scholarship awards are a very proud moment for the college, parents and family and of course all schools involved. As he presented each school with a plaque to remember Aoife' and Conor's achievement he also stressed that schools really do value the glory of our alumni. Well done Aoife and Conor.
