It was a busy but enjoyable day for both German and Irish exchange students as they visited Glendalough, and also managed to demonstrate one of our national sports to our German guests. The students got to explore Glendalough and learn a little about its fascinating history. Afterwards the students returned to the school and showed the Germans how Gaelic football was played. A fun day for all. They have gone to Kilkenny today.

Colaiste Bhride played their first match in the Leinster Inter Schools League in Enniscorthy Golf Club today against St. Mary's CBS. Our 2 groups of fourballs started well but the lower handicaps of the home team counted for much as St Mary's ran out comfortable winners in the end. Well done to Josh McGrath, Pauric Redmond, Daniel Behan and Bill Nolan who battled hard until the 18th hole. They face Gorey CS and FCJ Bunclody at home in Coolattin after the midterm.

Last night the Senior Debate team of Ciara Shannon, Fintan Smith, Leanne Fuller and Orla Kealy trav- elled to Gaelcholaiste na Mara to debate the topic "France should allow religious symbols in public institutions" The second debate of this years competition was much more testing and our novice team were put under serious pressure. This time they were up against a seasoned team from the Gaelcholaiste. They skilfully and passionately argued their case building on the skills they had developed in the first debate. As the adjudicators paused to announce the result, the room held its breath and it was the Coláiste Bhríde team that emerged winners. That’s two wins from two debates as the teams go forward. Thanks you so much Aidan D. A really busy week for you as you plan to travel t Malawi on Saturday.

Ardscoil na Trionoide Athy 3-11 Coliste Bhride Carnew 2-7 Coláiste Bhríde U 14’s had their second day out against a strong Athy side in the South Leinster Football Championship. This was a hard fought and physical game with the winner moving on to the knock out stage of the compe on. The Carnew ou it started strong taking a 1-4 to 6 points lead however, Ardscoil na Trionoide got a lucky goal just before half me. This gave Athy a 1-6 to 1-4 lead at half me. Athy got the upper hand in the second half to come out on top winning by 3-11 to 2-7. The score line doesn't re ect how close the game was with Carnew unlucky not to score at lease once more goal, hi ng both cross bar and post. Credit to the Carnew players who kept their cool in tes ng condi ons and very unspor ng behaviour from the opposi on. Best on the day for Carnew were Euan Happer, Adam Hadden, Eoin Kavanagh and Pauric Doyle. Sincere thanks to Mr. Hegarty.
Coláiste Bhríde Students prepare for a trip of a lifetime to rural Malawi

Two teenagers from Carnew are preparing themselves for the trip of a lifetime, as they make plans to set off on a schools visit to far off Malawi next week. Anne-Marie Doyle and Krystian Jacóbczak, both aged 18, will head to southern Africa at the end of October, on a week-long visit to poor rural communities in Malawi. They will travel as a part of an annual school trip organised by Irish development organisation Gorta-Self Help Africa. The Coláiste Bhríde Carnew school students were in Dublin last week for a meeting of fellow travellers, who received information and discussed the itinerary for their upcoming trip. When asked how they were feeling ahead of their upcoming trip, they both replied cheerfully “very excited!”. Gorta-Self Help Africa’s yearly trip is open to students from schools who take part in the charity’s Development Education programme. Trip participants from each school are selected on the basis of a one-page essay and an interview. Students then lead a fundraising campaign in their school to support the trip’s cost. This year, nine students and their teachers from Offaly, Kildare, Cork and Wicklow will fly from Dublin to Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital city. The group will visit two schools and two rural communities participating in an agricultural development project implemented by Gorta-Self Help Africa During their trip they will visit a Unesco World Heritage site at Lake Malawi National Park, and will be hosted by the Irish Ambassador at a reception at her residency. For the students, the trip is the opportunity of a lifetime to have a first-hand experience of the living conditions and lives of young people in a country known as ‘the warm heart of Africa.’ “It’s always better to experience from yourself than reading from a book or a newspaper,” explains Krystian. “And then you know what actually needs to be done,” adds Anne-Marie. From a learning perspective, Krystian says “I want to back-up the facts I already know about Africa.” For teacher Aidan Douglas, who will also travel, this trip is the occasion for his students to “get appreciation of the work that is done by charities and to actually see what the funds they raised go towards. It’s also a way to give them an appreciation that some things happening here are pretty insignificant compared to other things that can happen abroad.” Aidan Douglas, who has taken part in previous study visits, knows a trip to rural Africa can turn out to be a life-changing experience for students like Anne-Marie and Krystian: “The students are usually profoundly affected by their trip abroad. They become more active citizens. In the previous years, one of my students decided to sponsor a charity when he returned to Ireland.” What a special opportunity—we wish them well and assure them of our support. L D

A disappointing start to the league campaign for the senior team today in Coolboy. The team knew they would be up against it this year with the loss of some key senior players last season. The team started well but conceded early from 2 scrappy goals and lost much con dence from this. We ba led hard but couldn't make a very strong Wexford CBS team concede any goals, even though the bar was ra led and the keeper made a serious of world class saves. Final score was 0-5. The squad s ll has two more games in the group so we look forward to those as op- portuni es to regain con dence from today's disappointment. Thanks to Mr. Kenny & Mr. Keegan
U15 Soccer Vs Wexford CBS

Colaiste Bhríde 1 - 2 Wexford CBS The U-15 soccer team suffered a very narrow defeat today against Wexford CBS. Despite playing against a very good team, Colaiste Bhride acquitted themselves well and were the better team for long stretches. Chances were few and far between in the first half, but commanding defensive performances from Colaiste Bhride and in particular from Ryan Gilfoyle and Cillian McDonald, meant the teams went in level at the break. Unfortunately, Carnew fell behind at the beginning of the second half but continued to play well. Eoin Kavanagh had worked hard all day, and was rewarded for his effort with an outstanding long range goal to level the scores. From there the Carnew team looked to push on for the win, but were unable to move into the lead and were caught by a header from a corner with only a few minutes left on the clock. Despite coming out on the wrong side of the scoreline, The Colaiste Bhride team can be very pleased with its performance. Particular mention should also be given to Eoin Kavanagh, Cillian McDonald and James McGing who all gave fantastic performances on the day. Special thanks to Mr Conniffe.
