All first year students came together on Friday last for the inaugural First Year Maths Quiz. This is a new initiative organised by the Maths Department and Numeracy Team in the school. Teams of four participated in 8 rounds consisting of three or four questions but under strict time constraints. At the end of the 8 gruelling rounds, only one point divided the 1st and 2nd place teams but five teams shared 3rd place and had to complete a tie-breaker round. This could still not divide the teams so a further tie-breaker was held from which a winner emerged. A perpetual shield was awarded to the 1st place team of Victoria Dranko, Katelyn Walker, Aoife Kennedy and Sam Carroll. 2nd place went to the team of Emma Byrne, Sophie Doran, Shona Byrne and Liam Byrne. Finishing in 3rd place was Abbie Byrne, Ella Austin Joshua Kinsella and Gearóid Boland. Prizes were awarded to all placed teams. All students are to be commended for the the positive and enthusiastic approach they took with the quiz and for their exemplary behaviour throughout, especially during the nail-biting tie-breakers.

Coláiste Bhríde Carnew 6-14 St Kevin's Dunlavin 2-10 This was a huge game for Carnew on Thursday, 27th October, with the winner qualifying out of the group and advancing to a South Leinster final against Enniscorthy CBS. Dunlavin started stronger scoring 1-4 without reply. It was at this stage Carnew kicked into gear with two well taken goals by Conor Byrne and Seán Kenny. Carnew's work rate and determination gave them the edge in a hard fought first half however they took a six point lead into halftime. Carnew continued this excellent performance into the second half, eventually winning by 16 points. Best on the day is hard to call as all players gave it their all on the pitch although a special mention must go to Conor Byrne scoring 2-3, George Hadden with two goals, Adam Hadden, Joe Conroy and Eoin Kavanagh.

Caoimhe Coady, 3rd year, has successfully been selected as a Green-Schools Ambassador for Coláiste Bhríde.. Her application was selected from a large number of applicants throughout Ireland. This is a huge achievement and will benefit our school greatly. The Green-Schools Ambassador Programme will focus on the Green-Schools Water theme. This will tie in with our 7th Green flag Global Citizenship and Energy. Caoimhe will get the opportunity to work alongside other successful ambassadors at a workshop in November and a support session in January. The workshop will include: speakers in the field of engineering, talks from the Green-Schools and Clean Coasts Programmes, activities, and a field trip to a water or wastewater treatment plant. Caoimhe will then share what she has learned with her school and her community. We have every confidence in Caoimhe to bring back lots of ideas to implement in our school to help us save energy and become aware of how our actions affect people all over the world.

It was a busy but enjoyable day for both German and Irish exchange students as they visited Glendalough, and also managed to demonstrate one of our national sports to our German guests. The students got to explore Glendalough and learn a little about its fascinating history. Afterwards the students returned to the school and showed the Germans how Gaelic football was played. A fun day for all. They have gone to Kilkenny today.

Colaiste Bhride played their first match in the Leinster Inter Schools League in Enniscorthy Golf Club today against St. Mary's CBS. Our 2 groups of fourballs started well but the lower handicaps of the home team counted for much as St Mary's ran out comfortable winners in the end. Well done to Josh McGrath, Pauric Redmond, Daniel Behan and Bill Nolan who battled hard until the 18th hole. They face Gorey CS and FCJ Bunclody at home in Coolattin after the midterm.

Last night the Senior Debate team of Ciara Shannon, Fintan Smith, Leanne Fuller and Orla Kealy trav- elled to Gaelcholaiste na Mara to debate the topic "France should allow religious symbols in public institutions" The second debate of this years competition was much more testing and our novice team were put under serious pressure. This time they were up against a seasoned team from the Gaelcholaiste. They skilfully and passionately argued their case building on the skills they had developed in the first debate. As the adjudicators paused to announce the result, the room held its breath and it was the Coláiste Bhríde team that emerged winners. That’s two wins from two debates as the teams go forward. Thanks you so much Aidan D. A really busy week for you as you plan to travel t Malawi on Saturday.

Ardscoil na Trionoide Athy 3-11 Coliste Bhride Carnew 2-7 Coláiste Bhríde U 14’s had their second day out against a strong Athy side in the South Leinster Football Championship. This was a hard fought and physical game with the winner moving on to the knock out stage of the compe on. The Carnew ou it started strong taking a 1-4 to 6 points lead however, Ardscoil na Trionoide got a lucky goal just before half me. This gave Athy a 1-6 to 1-4 lead at half me. Athy got the upper hand in the second half to come out on top winning by 3-11 to 2-7. The score line doesn't re ect how close the game was with Carnew unlucky not to score at lease once more goal, hi ng both cross bar and post. Credit to the Carnew players who kept their cool in tes ng condi ons and very unspor ng behaviour from the opposi on. Best on the day for Carnew were Euan Happer, Adam Hadden, Eoin Kavanagh and Pauric Doyle. Sincere thanks to Mr. Hegarty.
