The girls Junior football team played Gorey CS in the Leinster championship in Gorey on Tuesday October 1st. Going in to the game we knew victory was essential if we were to advance from our group. Work rate was the order of the day and with the wind in their backs our girls asserted themselves from the start with some well taken scores. The battle was won around the middle also as we turned Gorey over time and again to set up our attacks. At half time the lead was 3-7 to 0-1. However we knew that Gorey would look to get back into the game by using the gale force wind to their advantage. With that in mind our girls set up camp on our 45 and set about frustrating the Gorey attack. Some more great turnovers proved crucial in allowing us to counter attack and finish the game off early. At the end we had ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 7-13 to 0-2. This was a display of great commitment and determination against a good Gorey side.

Colaiste Bhride Senior Girls Football team recorded a comfortable victory on Monday against Bridgetown VC. This Leinster group game was played out in terrible conditions and credit must go to both sets of players for sticking at it for 60 minutes. In truth all the damage was done in the opening half with some slick movements creating many scoring chances for the home team. Indeed the girls were tasked with being more clinical in front of goal than in previous games and they duly delivered, scoring an emphatic 7-12 in the opening 30 minutes. Well done to the girls who now face St Kevin’s Dunlavin in the final group game.

TY Comedy Tour Our TY students travelled to the Mill Theatre in Dundrum to ‘The Ger Carey Comedy Show’ recently. The hilarious show which is aimed at teenagers, focused on the inner workings of the teenage mind. Our students certainly had the opportunity to laugh at themselves, as well as acknowledging and appreciating the differences of others. The two hour show was thoroughly enjoyed by the TYs and it will be remembered as one of the highlights of the year. After the show there was time to enjoy some lunch in the centre and reflect on the performance!

Well done to Eliza Dolan from Scoil Mhuire Na Naird, Shillelagh. You can collect your prize from the front reception desk here in Coláiste Bhríde.

On Tuesday September 24th Ray Langan of ‘Rayesthegame’ gave an engaging talk to parents in our school. We received some great insights into the mind of the modern day teenager as well as being comforted by Ray’s common sense and practical approach. On Wednesday morning 3rd and 5th year students joined Ray in St Brigids Hall for an uplifting and inspiring session which focused on setting goals, time management and study skill resources. Students arrived back to school with a pep in their step ready to face the challenges of the year ahead and now armed with the advice and confidence received from the morning’s workshop. We thank Ray so much for committing his time to our school and indeed we also thank Ms Drummond for making this possible. We look forward to welcoming Ray back to our school again next year.

Junior Girls Football The Junior Girls played St. Mary’s College in Arklow on Tuesday. Eager to get the Wicklow Championship off to a winning start, the girls dominated from the start. Full forward and captain Sarah Doyle put 2-3 on the scoresheet within the first ten minutes of the match. Coláiste Bhríde displayed skill and determination in every position. We had the opportunity to give all our subs a run today and each one stepped up and made an impression on the game. With more players to return to the squad, we look forward to an exciting championship campaign. The senior girls also took on St Marys in Arklow. This game combined as a Leinster and Wicklow group fixture. Our girls started well but some wayward shooting meant the scoreboard did not reflect our dominance. In fact it took some resolute defending toward the end of the first half to ensure we had a comfortable 10 point lead at the break. The girls were tasked with improving their decision making with the ball in the 2nd half and they certainly improved this area of their play. More focused teamwork resulted in our side pulling away with ease to win by 4-15 to 1-3. Next up is a home tie with Bridgetown VC.
