Each base class is assigned a Student Council (SC) member to act as a point of contact. The SC representative will meet with the class at assembly time once a fortnight and update students on what is being discussed at meetings. It is also an opportunity for students to raise any concerns or issues that they might have which can then be discussed at weekly SC meetings. The main role of the SC is to act as the voice of the student body and to keep information flowing between students and school management. We wish them well. Many thanks to Ms Murphy who coordinates our SC activities each year.

Coláiste Bhríde Carnew 5-10 OLOL Rosbercon 1-5 The Carnew girls got their Leinster Junior Camogie campaign off to a wining start on Monday, 21st October with a comfortable win over Our Lady of Lourdes Rosbercon. The game played in lovely conditions in Carnew looked to be competitive in the opening exchanges but once the CBC ladies settled and became comfortable with their opposition they took over and controlled the remainder of the half. The rise in standard compared to last year didn’t phase the Carnew ladies as they raced into a 4-7 to no score break at half time. The work rate, hunger and desire shown by these ladies last year has not faded at all. This comfortable victory against stronger opposition being the proof. Each player was exceptional on the day.

Colaiste Bhride played Colaiste Chraobh Abhainn, Kilcoole in the Wicklow Championship Quarter Final which was played in Carnew last Friday 18th October. It is always interesting to see how the new panel will work together, especially this year as a few regulars were missing. Fortunately, we got plenty of ball into our inside forward line who created plenty of scoring opportunities. Halftime score was 3-7 to 0-2. Carnew continued to work well throughout the field and in particular showed well in defense with Cillian McDonald leading the way and in attack special mention has to go to Brendan Tobin (TY) who on his debut ended on a score line of 4-2. Final score 5-12 to 0-7. The team now await their opponents in the Semi Final which is due to be played at the end of November. Many thanks to Mr.Morris for his enthusiasm.

The junior girls football team topped their group and qualified for the leinster quarter final by beating Presentation College Wexford in Carnew on Tuesday Oct 22nd. Having began the campaign with victories away to Gorey CS and Colaiste Bhride Enniscorthy the Carnew girls started well in their first home game of the campaign. The girls dominated possession but, playing up the hill, found the away sides full back line hard to break down. However some well taken scores soon opened up a 1-6 to 0-1 lead. The home side really wrapped up this game in the 5 minutes before half time as relentless pressure finally broke the Wexford side’s rearguard with 3 more goals added before the whistle blew. The second half brought about many changes to the team and all subs contributed to another dominant period of play. In the end we ran out winners on a scoreline of 7-14 to 0-3. This side has plenty of potential but know that tough tests lie ahead in this Leinster campaign.

The girls Senior football team were made to work hard for their victory over a determined St Kevin’s side from Dunlavin in the Wicklow A semi final in Tinahely on Monday Oct 21st. Although dominant in possession early on the home side were wasteful in front of goal. Dunlavin came out strong from the start and engaged in a physical battle which resulted in many turnovers in possession. Dunlavin were more composed in front of goal and took any chance that came their way in the first half to leave the scores level at 1-5 each at the half way point. The second half started out in much the same vain although our shooting boots did improve somewhat to open up a 7 point lead with 10 minutes to go. However we then took our foot off the pedal and we were duly punished as Dunlavin scores two late goals to leave just one point in the difference with two minutes to go. A strong finish and the two last scores from our girls, who worked hard all game ensures we qualified for the final on a scoreline of 2-12 to 3-6. We’ll done to the girls.

The senior rugby team travelled to Energia Park, Donnybrook to play Moyne Community School in the Leinster Shield final on Tuesday the 17th December. It was very obvious from the outset that both teams were up for the big occasion. Coláiste Bhríde managed to secure good possession and territory in the first half which eventually resulted in a well worked line out and backline move, with Joe Conroy scoring a try in the far corner. Strong ball carrying by the Carnew forwards built on this lead as George Hadden crossed the whitewash for the second try which was converted by Joe Conroy, giving the Wicklow side a 12-0 lead. Moyne CS were determined to stay in the game and were awarded for their hard efforts by scoring two tries which brought the score line to a close 12-10. It was a tense few final minutes, but CB Carnew held out strong until the end to be crowned the 2019-20 Leinster Shield Champions. A huge congratulations to the team and all squad members. A sincere thank you to all students, parents and past students who travelled to Donnybrook to support the team. Mr. Davies
