School Jackets and PE half zips

As the cold weather approaches, and the classroom windows will have to remain open for greater ventilation, students will be wearing jackets to school each day. As we have specified since August, the ONLY jacket to be worn in school will be our school jacket. This is, and always has been, in stock in SHAWS. Students have been keenly aware of this requirement since early September when they are asked to remove hoodies and other non school jackets. We hope that the need to do this will lessen from here on as it is hoped families were able to purchase the school jacket for the winter ahead. As in all previous years to date, no student may go on a school tour without their full uniform on, including the school jacket. This has never altered. Unless it is specifically walking through fields and mud, wearing the full school uniform is the only way our students will be allowed on a bus to represent our school. Unfortunately the PE half zip O'Neills order is later than expected. It was to be in stock in SHAWS on 20th October, but O'Neills have now pushed that out to the 3rd week of November. We can only apologise for the inconvenience of this but for those students who do not have this item for the days they do PE, please continue to wear a black top, any colour T-shirt and black track suit bottoms to school - but not on the days you have no PE. If a student wears their PE gear in on a day on which he has no PE class, his parents/guardians will be called to either bring in their proper uniform or the student will sit a Friday detention. As it was the student who was trying to get one past us, doing the detention will be the fairest outcome, rather than parents running around finding uniforms and shoes for him. If it happens a second time, the student will automatically be given the Friday detention. Unless we monitor and apply the uniform requirements to all students, it is unfair on those who do comply. As always, we appreciate the support of families in helping us maintain this code of dress in our school. The objective behind it is if you are dressed in a uniform, and following the dress code of your school or workplace, you are more focused on your work and you know you are there for a purpose. Attention to small details can remove hassle about bigger issues as students' minds began the day with the purpose of coming to school to study and learn. It is also fair to say that students should be proud to wear the uniform of their school, as they do when wearing a team's colours. And they look so much better. We are very proud of all our students and are regularly complimented on their respect and manners when they go on tours. Hopefully we will continue to see a return to these as life returns to a new normal. We wish all our students a good term ahead, the 3rd and 6th years will begin their pre-Mocks on Monday 8th November and many projects are underway, in addition to the normal academics across the school. It is a very busy term for all. Take care, keep well.

It may seem cruel to put this up on the last day of term, but as the Pre-Mock Exams begin on Mon 8th November, it would be wrong not to give you the heads up. I hope most of you do take time to look over your course work when the pressure of time has lessened next week. Those of you doing both Junior and Senior project work should also spend time planning, gathering ideas and putting them together, as the next few months will fly. Otherwise, I hope you all get to enjoy your 9 days off. Get fresh air, eat well, sleep well and come back refreshed. Take care and stay safe over the Halloween.

Well done to our U19 Soccer team who beat Killina 2 goals to 1 today. The team were down by a goal at the start of the second half but Colin Conroy soon equalised five minutes after coming on. A penalty for Colin later on saw the CBS lead 2 - 1. A great effort by all the team and coaches Ms. Hyland and Mr. Glavin ⚽️⚽️⚽️ #cbsabú #soccerlife #fromeachhisbest
