U16 Rugby Blitz

Our U16 Rugby team headed to Portarington today for a blitz that saw them play four games. We started brightly against St. Kevin’s Dunlavin with some excellent carries by Robert Keane and Cian Butler. A truly end to end game with some excellent defence from both sides keeping the game scoreless. We were unfortunate in the last few minutes to be beaten by a wonder try from the St. Kevin’s full back. We dusted ourselves off for the second game against Comfey College and made a few changes to the side which saw Theo Adams introduced and he made ground on every carry. Some excellent interplay between backs and forwards got us up to the try line for Ciaran O’Brien McCormack to dive over from close range. Paddy Fitzpatrick converted and we were unlucky not to get another try before holding out for a deserved win. The third game was against Mountrath and saw a few more changes to the line up. Tony Walsh came in and made some excellent defensive reads and tackles on the wing but the star of the show had to be David Reddin who bossed his pack around the pitch and won the game for us with an outstanding cross field kick for Oran Darcy to touch down and convert. The final game against Kildare Town Community School was attritional to say the least with some massive hits, last ditch tackles, and counter rucking throughout. Darren Dunne and Tadhg O’Sullivan fought hard to get us up the pit ch, but unfortunately, we were beaten by two wonderful tries by Kildare’s dancing winger. Player of the day is Cian Butler who made dominant tackles, carried hard with every carry, and was an inspiration to his teammates. Well done lads!
