The guidance department are organising a presentation from the National Learning Network in Portlaoise, followed by a question and answer session. If there are any students in 6th year who are interested in the the National Learning Network for September 2021 please contact cbrennan@portlaoisecbs.com so you can be added to the Teams group for the talk.

This information is necessary in order to inform students who are studying subjects out-of-school and those who are studying non-curricular languages of the processes that they should follow in order to receive an Accredited Grade in those subjects this year. You may already know some of the students who are in these categories but there may be others that you are not aware of yet.
The most current information on all matters relating to Leaving Certificate examinations and the Accredited Grades process will be available on an ongoing basis on www.gov.ie/LeavingCertificate

School Leaver Options for Young Adults with Disabilities Pathways to Inclusion in Education and Work with National Learning Network (Parent & Student Webinar) 27.4.2021
National Learning Network (NLN) is Ireland’s leading provider of specialist training, education, and employment services, empowering people with disabilities, mental health conditions and autism to acquire the skills that they want and need to progress to further or higher education and employment.
All courses have nationally recognised accreditation coupled with personalised supports and traversal skills training. Student supports are integral to the journey in NLN. These include learning support, psychological support, and advocacy support. Work experience with local host companies enhances inclusion and informed decision making for life after NLN.
NLN have training centres in every county in Ireland. NLN courses are funded by Education and Training Boards or the Health Service Executive.
At the end of the information webinar participant will:
- Gain an understanding of the diverse profile of school-leaver in NLN
- Have an overview of course sampling with NLN
- Have information on the learning, psychological and advocacy supports within a multidisciplinary team in NLN
- Have an awareness of pathways to further education, higher education, and work after NLN
- See some real stories of school-leaver progressions with NLN

Parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic is a unique challenge for all parents, caregivers and families. Children and parents are anxious, and families are under pressure like never before. Being a parent to a child/teenager who is experiencing anxiety can be tough.
Anxious children / teenagers can seek constant reassurance have outbursts of anger / frustration and can feel sick when worried. Parenting has a crucial role to play in mitigating the potential long-term negative impacts of COVID-19 on children, particularly in relation to mental health.

Road Works on Colliers Lane begin tomorrow, Monday 12th April

You may be shocked to hear that after 4 months out of school, road works will begin tomorrow morning, April 12th along Colliers Lane. With the return of approximately 2000 staff and students to our Borris Road school campus, from 8am tomorrow, Traffic on Colliers Lane and the Borris Road will be moving very slowly and all who hope to reach work/school on time, will have to leave much earlier than they normally do to be on time. Safe driving, looking forward to seeing everyone's faces in the morning.

You can order your graduation Tops from Ms Kelly on Monday the 12th of April. The half zip tops are €28 and the Jersey is €24. Could you please put the money in an envelope with your Name, size , initials and style of top on the front of the envelope .

Some medical students have come together to offer a free zoom conference to hopefully bridge, what some feel is the inaccessibility to study medicine. On April 12th at 7pm they will be holding a seminar in which they will talk about :
How to get into medicine in Ireland with a database of free resources
Financial support for students who wish to study medicine but may not have the means to do so.
Information on the HPAT exam, including resources, courses and study tips.
What to do if you don’t get into medicine on your first application.
