Incoming First Years Purchasing iPad from Wriggle
Created : 06 May 2021, 10:07 PM
Archived : 07 Jul 2021, 12:00 AM
A letter has been sent to all parents/guardians of incoming first years which you should have by Monday, 10th May. It explains how to order the iPad from Wriggle, provides you with the unique school code for our school to help you sign in and also how you can purchase the books.
The subject options for first years have not been finalised yet so the purchasing of texts will have to wait until they are. We hope to have this information for you in a week’s time.
The purchase of the iPad and the books is a completely separate process. You must purchase the iPad by June 9th if you want to avoid paying a late fee of 50 euros.
Where do you buy the textbooks?
1, You COULD purchase the textbooks in any bookshop - as publishers put a code inside the book cover which allows you to download the ebook onto your device.
2. BUT, THERE IS A DISCOUNT CODE for BOOKHAVEN (Wriggle’s partner) which we are still waiting on. This will give you a 12.5% discount. This is worth waiting a little while for.
There is no late fee for purchasing books in late June or July. But do remember, if you purchase from Bookhaven in late August at the last minute, don't expect to have your son's books for the first day of school. You won't. On the good side, they are delivered straight to your house, but you must order in time.
We will notify you immediately when we receive the Bookhaven code so you can avail of this discount. And you’ll be informed of your son’s subject options in the coming week.
The first purchase should be the iPad from Wriggle. Instructions to help you do so are in an App Notification which went out 2 days ago and also should arrive in your post this morning.
Of course you may decide to opt for Book Rental or just books with no device. That is your decision. Book rental Applications are available on our website on the Homepage and MUST be submitted by May 28th. Thank you.

‘Wear something colourful’ non uniform day tomorrow

Tomorrow we will take part in a fundraiser for Laois Offaly Families for Autism (LOFFA).
We are asking our students and staff to “Wear a colourful T- shirt or hoodie”, as part of a non-uniform day, and make a small donation of €2 for the charity.
LOFFA provides vital support and services for families of children and adults with autism. We feel it is a great local charity to support this term especially as our Solas classes come to the end of their first year in the CBS.

iPad licence renewal for 3rd, TY and 5th Years
Created : 05 May 2021, 2:25 PM
Archived : 05 Jul 2021, 12:00 AM
Dear parents of 3rd year, TY and 5th year students,
This is a very URGENT message in relation to renewal of your sons iPad licence.
Please note if your licence is not renewed before May 10th your sons iPad will no longer be supported by Wriggle and he will not be permitted to use an unmanaged device in school. We will also be unable to provide any technical support.
Background
When each student first purchased their iPad Bundle in 1st year, three Year Support and three-Year Management was included. This management licensing is required to safely and securely “lock down” the iPad and support the device for essential maintenance. This licence is now due for renewal.
Possible consequences of licences and support expiring
It can be hugely disruptive if the licence on a device is allowed to expire. In the event that it does expire, some or all of the following can happen:
1. All Apps will de-activate and data/content will delete
2. eBooks will disappear along with Publisher Apps deactivating
3. School Wi-Fi Codes will delete, requiring manual input by teachers, or sharing of codes with students
4. A full reset of iPads will be required which will involve the iPad being sent away to Wriggle
5. We will be unable to push Apps to iPads
6. We will be unable to support eBooks
7. We will be unable to support any iPad technical issues
Note: The licence cannot just be ‘switched back on’. To reinstall the software the device must be returned to Wriggle, erased and set up again as if it were a new device. The device must remain with Wriggle for 30 days to ensure the profile is fixed on the device and an additional cost on you will be incurred.
Costs
Ensuring that students are not impacted, requires the purchase of new licenses. This purchase will include a renewal of support services also, full details of which are listed below. The cost of renewal is as follows:
1. €99 where 3 year licensing and support is required (i.e. those students entering TY in Sep 2021)
2. €66 where 2 year licensing and support is required (i.e. those students entering 5th Year in Sep 2021)
3. €33 where 1 year licensing and support is required (i.e. those students entering 6th Year in Sep 2021)

We are happy to report the Wriggle store is now open and devices are available to purchase. The attached PDF outlines the steps you must take to order to purchase your Wriggle Device bundle and then purchase your books from Bookhaven.
Some important information you may want to take note of:
The School store code is attached at the top of the PDF document and highlighted in green
You must watch the quick Wriggle video which explains the process before you will be allowed to choose your bundle and order
The fees for the 3-year licence for Mobile Device Management and Digital Technology Training Support are mandatory
There is a late fee of 50 euro if you do not place your order before June 9th
The unique Quick Code for ordering from Bookhaven is not yet released so please refrain from purchasing books until this is distributed.
It is important to note the iPad order from Wriggle is completely separate to your book order from Bookhaven. Once the iPad is delivered you will find the Wriggle Connect App pre-installed. This will guide you on how to redeem eBooks so your son can access his schoolbooks on the device.

Archived : 28 Jun 2021, 12:00 AM
The Leaving Cert online portal reopened yesterday for candidates to review and confirm their written exam choices, accredited grades or both.
It will remain open until 6pm on Friday.
All candidates are required to log on and complete this process even if their choices have not changed since March.
Students who have opted for accredited grades must indicate the subjects they want assessed and select the level they want to be assessed at.
The choice of subject level can be changed on the day for students sitting written exams but levels chosen in accredited grades cannot be revised because the process of assessment gets underway next month.
