On Thursday April 29th we will take part in a fundraiser for Laois Offaly Families for Autism (LOFFA).
We are asking our students and staff to “Wear a colourful T- shirt or hoodie”, as part of a non-uniform day, and make a small donation of €2 for the charity.
LOFFA provides vital support and services for families of children and adults with autism. We feel it is a great local charity to support this term especially as our Solas classes come to the end of their first year in the CBS.

Our TY Focus Ireland Fundraiser

The final figure for money raised for the TY Focus Ireland Fundraiser was €5,800 and total distance covered was 2,886.7km.
68 TY students and several teachers of St Mary's CBS Portlaoise took part.
We are so grateful to the students, staff and the wider community for their involvement and support of our fundraising. We would also like to thank our Transition Year students and again reiterate how proud we are of them in their attempt to fight the homelessness crisis by supporting Focus Ireland.
It was a massive achievement for the school community during such difficult times. During some of our Tuesday afternoon activities classes we walked together, virtually through Microsoft Teams!
Ms Hyland is T.Y teacher who introduced the fundraiser to the boys. She said ,“To have been the number one school in the country for our amount fundraised was just phenomenal and we couldn’t be prouder of the lads commitment to the project.’
One TY student commented - "Of course, online learning came with some challenges, but the benefits of TY were still shining through. Although we were limited with what we could do the Camino was just one of the opportunities that we could work together, while apart. This was where each TY student set up their own fundraising page and walked/ran 114k within the space of 5 weeks in hoping to raise money and indulge us in the Camino Culture while walking on Irish soil. I can't believe what we were able to achieve. Although our experience in TY has definitely been unique, we can still look back fondly on what we achieved".
Pictured here are our top fundraisers from the TY group, Eoin Brosnan, Conor Buggie and Aidan Keane who received One4All vouchers for their efforts.
The class who raised the highest amount are also pictured with their Pizza Party (as promised) upon their return last week.
Well done to all those in our school community who took part and supported such a great cause.
Remote Teaching / Learning Policy

In the interests of promoting best practice for both students and teachers, please read our updated Remote Teaching / Learning Policy . It can be viewed on the School tab of our App under School Code & Policies. It will also be available on our school website within the next day or two. We wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during the lockdown when you had all your children learning from home, in every age bracket. It wasn't easy, Lessons were learned on both sides and we hope that this policy reflects those lessons learned and what needed to be addressed to maintain both respect and learning when out of the classroom setting. This applies to lockdown and to homework when students are in school.
