The Creative Hub team at IT Carlow will be running a free online summer school for TY and senior cycle students in late June. This is an innovative project that young people can really get their teeth into. It's gives learners a taste of 3rd level in a fun and original week-long programme. It has been built to enhance progression to 3rd level and encourage digital entrepreneurship and a re-engagement with learning. We would be very grateful if you could please distribute the attached e-leaflet to TY co-ordinators, relevant teachers and year heads who can then pass it on to prospective learners. The QR code on the e-leaflet brings everyone to our web page and application.

One of our TY module classes, the Young Social Innovators, reached the national finals of the YSI Action Programme earlier this term. Their teacher Mr Dooley and his students were delighted to receive news last week that they are eligible for a YSI Schools of Excellence Award which recognises their commitment to social innovation education. We want to acknowledge the very hard work and commitment this group of TY students put into their project over lockdown which focused on making life in a school for visually impaired or challenged students a better experience. We also acknowledge their empathy to put themselves in another's shoes and try to help others who may find life challenging. Well done lads! We will be receiving both the YSI plaque and flag for our school in the coming weeks. They will be visible in the GPA and on the flagpole outside.

This year we are able to provide an additional service to parents when looking for the easiest way to purchase their CBS texts and all listed school materials which are on the Booklist. ALLBOOKS are now linked with our App’s SHOP and the cost of posting it all direct to your home is €5.95. Go to the 3 lines on top left, click on SHOP and then choose BOOKLIST. Select your son’s year for September. You can purchase every item which is on the booklist, both text and materials, copies, etc for your son and have it delivered for a small charge to your home. Saves standing in queues and you know it is what our booklist is specifying as we work closely with Allbooks. As always, we wish to support our local businesses.
Incoming First Years Purchasing iPad from Wriggle

A letter has been sent to all parents/guardians of incoming first years which you should have by Monday, 10th May. It explains how to order the iPad from Wriggle, provides you with the unique school code for our school to help you sign in and also how you can purchase the books. The subject options for first years have not been finalised yet so the purchasing of texts will have to wait until they are. We hope to have this information for you in a week’s time. The purchase of the iPad and the books is a completely separate process. You must purchase the iPad by June 9th if you want to avoid paying a late fee of 50 euros. Where do you buy the textbooks? 1, You COULD purchase the textbooks in any bookshop - as publishers put a code inside the book cover which allows you to download the ebook onto your device. 2. BUT, THERE IS A DISCOUNT CODE for BOOKHAVEN (Wriggle’s partner) which we are still waiting on. This will give you a 12.5% discount. This is worth waiting a little while for. There is no late fee for purchasing books in late June or July. But do remember, if you purchase from Bookhaven in late August at the last minute, don't expect to have your son's books for the first day of school. You won't. On the good side, they are delivered straight to your house, but you must order in time. We will notify you immediately when we receive the Bookhaven code so you can avail of this discount. And you’ll be informed of your son’s subject options in the coming week. The first purchase should be the iPad from Wriggle. Instructions to help you do so are in an App Notification which went out 2 days ago and also should arrive in your post this morning. Of course you may decide to opt for Book Rental or just books with no device. That is your decision. Book rental Applications are available on our website on the Homepage and MUST be submitted by May 28th. Thank you.

‘Wear something colourful’ non uniform day tomorrow

Tomorrow we will take part in a fundraiser for Laois Offaly Families for Autism (LOFFA). We are asking our students and staff to “Wear a colourful T- shirt or hoodie”, as part of a non-uniform day, and make a small donation of €2 for the charity. LOFFA provides vital support and services for families of children and adults with autism. We feel it is a great local charity to support this term especially as our Solas classes come to the end of their first year in the CBS.
