GAA Future Leaders Programme......A trip to “Go Quest” is planned for Monday 23rd January. A contribution to the cost of this is required. Give your name to Miss Hyland on Tuesday 28th January please.
One place has become available on the Mini Med course at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. If you are interested speak with Ms. O’Connell ASAP.
Finally we are half way through the 6 short courses which are happening every Tuesday from 2-4 up to the mid term break. The engagement in learning has been excellent. For example the photography class went walkabout on Main Street Portlaoise last Tuesday and met some interesting people and places to photograph . They visited The Leinster Express,P J Kavanagh’s pub and concert venue, Brian Fergus’ photography shop and Nino’s chipper as part of a study of people at their work stations.
Just to note..... some students have repeatedly forgotten their sports gear for self defence or the GAA coaching course. This rather defeats the purpose of the short courses!
Our school is closed this Monday 27th January.

Irish Exemptions - to clarify

This has been a topic of discussion among parents since last July when Minister Joe McHugh changed some of the criteria under which a student might gain an Irish Exemption. However, it is not an open door and Principals are still bound by the Department Circular's parameters. Therefore, our Board of Management have approved a Granting of Irish Exemptions Policy for our school body in December 2019 which is based on the Department Circular 0053/2019. It can be read on this App if you go into School, then click on School Code & Policies. Then scroll down to the bottom of the list. It will be on our school website in the coming days.
The Circular is also part of this notice.
