Congratulations to our CBS students Brian Smith, Sam Birrane, Josh Hogan, DJ White, Ben Reddin, Simon Fingleton, Kieran O'Donnell, Ben Dempsey and Conor Brown who have been selected on the Laois Minor Football panel 2020. Special congratulations to Simon Fingleton of Ratheniska GAA who was selected as the Laois Minor captain. Also, congratulations to Barry Fitzpatrick and DJ White who have been selected on the Laois Minor Hurling panel 2020. We wish the students the very best of luck with Laois and with their remaining school matches.

Senior debating win

St. Mary’s CBS came out with a unanimous win over a very talented Heywood team tonight. Captain Thomas Dunne, Jack Delaney, John Davis and Cian MacGearailt opposed the motion that “In the decade of centenaries, this house asserts that the challenges that Ireland faces today are more daunting than those faced by Irish people 100 years ago. The judges were full of praise for the CBS students. Cian MacGearailt cleaned up, scooping the Best Individual Speaker in the county out of 12 contestants. Their mentor Ms. D. Carroll is thrilled that all their hard work has paid off. Congratulations to her and the boys on their big win!
French CBA

Our 3rd years are very busy at the minute completing their CBA’s as part of their junior cycle exam. Some of our 3rd year French students prepared French delicacy’s for their French CBA’s. The boys prepared the food at home and then gave a presentation to the class. Pictured is Oisín Mcdonald with his French teacher Ms Lewens. Well done lads and keep up the hard work!

Transition Years students are currently collecting data for their SciFest projects. 3 groups are looking at the effect of energy drinks on sporting performance doing a 100 m sprint, strength training in the gym and pucking a sliotar.
CBS School Anthem on Radio 3 Monday 7pm

Some of our Transition Years who worked on the creation the new School Anthem, which is fantastic (have you heard it yet?) will be interviewed on Radio 3 tonight, Monday 23rd March at 7 pm. Ann Marie Kelly on her show the Open Door will ask the lads about the work and the different stages of putting together this great sound and of course, the fun they had in doing so. Well done Ms Quinlan and TY's!! SoAnn Marie Kelly, on her programme Open Door on Radio 3, will interview Midlands Radio 3 - our School Anthem tonight, about our new school anthem. This programme can be heard at 7pm.
