On Wednesday the Religion department hosted Fr. Conor McDonnagh OP of the Domincan Order. He spoke to 3rd, 5th and 6th years and couldn’t praise their excellent behaviour and engagement more.
In his presentation, Fr. Conor challenged the students to reconsider the premise that science and religion are mutually opposed to each other. There was also time to show some of the videos he has made for the Dominican YouTube channel that focused on some local areas of interest such as the Orthodox Church in Stradbally.
Well done to all involved.
U16 Rugby Development Update

Last week our U16 Rugby Development Team travelled out to Portlaoise Rugby Club to play Naas CC. St. Mary’s CBS team was made up of players new to the game but also some experienced. The game started well from end to end with both sides attacking out wide and both teams’ defences being tested. The wet weather didn’t help with the handling errors and both sides conceded knock-ons and gave away penalties.
It would be the CBS boys who would strike first, and some nice play and handling skills would see Scott Byrne move the ball out wide to Isaac Kenny and Reuben Plunkett who released Yoyo Obi on the wing to speed past the Naas defence and score under the posts. Naas came back into the game fighting and would get over for their first try, leveling things up at 5 all. The CBS lads were delighted with the half time break to catch their breaths after a pulsating first half of end to end Rugby.
The second half started off just as good as the first with end to end Rugby from both sides. Naas were the more dominant side in this half with some big carries from their forwards. They looked to have gotten in for a try, but some great CBS defence held them up over the line for a drop out to the CBS.
From this, Naas came again and would score their second try in the corner. This was the wake up call the CBS needed and from here they began a strong attack with big carries from Harry Redmond, Mark Fennell and Sean Dunne to name a few, getting the CBS back down into a great attacking position in the Naas 22.
Some quick passes from scrum half Leon Davis would see the CBS edge closer and closer to the Naas try line. Adam Miller making a big carry to set up a ruck where Davis popped it out to Ryan Mc Evoy who made a great line to power over the line for a great try with Scott Byrne adding the conversion which left it 12 points to 10. Naas would rally again but it was too little too late as the CBS attacked again through Sebastian Jebali and Josh Bowe who made big carries, and Daragh Lalor came off the bench to score a third and final try for the CBS, sealing a hard fought victory 19 to 10. A great Team performance from the CBS overall and some fantastic individual performances.
Men of the match goes to Ryan Mc Evoy and Adam Miller. #fromeachtheirbest
